IN THE WAKE OF THE WEEK
Mayor's Budget Message and District 4 Budget Town Hall
I'm proud to have been part of the team working with Mayor Sam Liccardo
to craft his budget message and focus the City’s priorities on the needs of our residents. Issues such as homelessness, blight, public safety and environmental stewardship are our primary focus.

On March 24th at 6pm, I will be hosting a budget town hall where we'll be discussing the details of the Mayor's message and what it means for District 4. I'm excited to share my vision and I look forward to your input as we shape our community together.
The City Celebrates the 150th Anniversary of Alum Rock Park

This week at City Council, we recognized and celebrated the 150th anniversary of Alum Rock Park, the oldest municipal park in the state of California. It has been an integral part of our community and holds a special place in my family’s heart as well.
The park has long been one of the Bay Area's most visited destinations and uniquely represents the intricate ecosystem of the Diablo foothills.
Nestled in a canyon in the Diablo Range, Alum Rock Park sits on 720 acres of and boasts over 13 miles of trails, including 6 miles of horse trails and 3 miles of bike trails. You can find detailed maps, along with more information about amenities, facilities and activities here.

The City will be celebrating Alum Rock Park's 150th Anniversary Marquee Saturday, May 14, 2022 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM. We'll be reopening the visitor center and there will be live music, food trucks, a climbing wall, jump houses, large lawn games, and a mineral spring walk. Come celebrate with us!
Personal Safety - Safe Neighbor Program Returns

Want to learn how to better protect yourself, your family and your property from potential crime? Join us as at our 3rd Safe Neighbor event in District 4, held in partnership with the San Jose Police Department Crime Prevention Unit. We will also be joined by special guest Police Chief Anthony Mata.

We'll be focusing on a community effort to provide a more neighborhood-centric approach to public safety. The event will be held this Saturday, March 12th from 10:30AM-Noon at Brooktree Elementary School.
Topics we'll be covering:

  • Personal Safety
  • Awareness of Surroundings
  • Distractions that put us in Danger
  • Suspicious Behavior
  • Neighborhood Safety
  • Crime Prevention through Environmental Design
  • Reporting to Police
  • Reporting other issues
Once registered, we'll send you a confirmation email with more information.

Public safety is a team effort. My goal is to work toward a partnership between law enforcement and the community in order to establish trust. Also, by giving the residents of our neighborhoods safety training, we can all look out for each other using the tools and knowledge that will create a safer city.

I look forward to seeing you at the event!

Sincerely,

School Site Testing

Again, we encourage school staff and families to register for weekly school site testing, especially during this winter season. Schedules vary by site. Please contact your school to learn your weekly testing day. This registration process also provides permission for your students to be tested when they are considered a close contact for school exposure if response testing is available and helps expedite that process. As a reminder, if you are notified to pick up your child from school for exposure, please be sure to check them out from the office. Additional information for testing and isolation will be provided at that time.
