Reminder: Do Not Tie Kayaks and Recreational

Equipment to Mangroves

Mangroves are an essential and protected part of the Florida ecosystem – helping stabilize our coastline and prevent erosion while providing a natural home for local wildlife.

The Village of Key Biscayne is reminding residents of this precious natural resource and the 1996 Mangrove Trimming & Preservation Act as Miami-Dade County enforces protection measures, including removing and taking possession of kayaks and recreational equipment illegally ties to mangroves.

Update: Fernwood Parking and Drainage Improvement

Fernwood Parking Improvement.jpg

Construction on the Fernwood Parking and Drainage Improvement Project is underway between the Key Biscayne Community Center and W. Heather drive. There is no parking or sidewalk access in this area during construction.

The project will add 40 new parking spaces and provide greater access to the Village Green Park. The new parking will also reduce flooding along Fernwood Road by using a pervious pavement system that will not only look nice but be environmentally friendly.

The project is expected to be complete in 90 days from the start time and will be done in sections to minimize impact on the community.
