LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education to Host
2022 Leadership Institute

For the first time since 2017, LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education will be hosting an in-person Leadership Institute. The 2022 Institute, “Together Again (In Person)”, will take place on June 15-17 at Pasadena City College (CA). The Institute is designed to provide professional development and mentoring opportunities for current and future LGBTQ leaders across all sectors of higher education.

The conference will open with a panel discussion called "Confronting the Moral Panic: Higher Education and K-12 Collaboration" on laws that discriminate against gender identities and sexuality. LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education recently voted to boycott all states that pass such laws.

Other Institute highlights include:

A presentation from Margaret Drugovich, the fourteen-year president of Hartwick College, called “It’s Not About You; It’s All About You: Navigating the Public Space of Leadership.”

Torie Osborn, a four-time CEO of national and regional nonprofit organizations, including the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and currently chief strategist for Los Angeles County Supervisor, Sheila Kuehl, will speak about “Leadership Through Activism.”

Member presidents and vice presidents will discuss a range of topics such as mergers, acquisitions, and realignments, as well as career paths and positive work cultures.

Several search firms in higher education will be represented in breakout sessions to discuss successful search processes.

Current and retired LGBTQ presidents, chancellors, superintendents and CEOs will provide one-on-one mentoring to interested participants.

The Leadership Institute will also include informal time for aspiring LGBTQ leaders to meet with current and past college and university CEOs, presidents, chancellors, and superintendents, including a reception and tour of the Tournament of Roses House.

Institute-wide sponsors are Academic Search and RPA, Inc. The sponsor for June 15 is Cengage and for June 16 is RSS Consulting, Inc. Individual sessions are sponsored by AGB Search, Spelman Johnson, Virtual Care and Storbeck Search. Pasadena City College, William Paterson University, and Executive Director, Terry L. Allison are also institute sponsors.
