Dear Titan Family and Friends,

April has seen numerous festivities at Lake Oconee Academy, including the crowning of the Prom King and Queen, a school-wide eclipse viewing party, career day, and spring athletics.
As we wind down the school year and prepare for the excitement that awaits as the Class of 2024 will soon be spreading their wings, we'd like to take this opportunity to update you on some important action items discussed during the April 8, 2024 Board of Governors meeting, and provide important reminders about upcoming events and opportunities.

  • Communications
  • Dr. Bowling shared that earlier in the day, LOA hosted a well-attended Eclipse Watch Party that was well-received by students, families, faculty, and staff. In addition to this newsletter, LOA is preparing press releases regarding the Charter Contract and Cognia Accreditation information provided below.

  • Strategic Planning
  • Dr. Bowling shared that LOA will host a Community Engagement Night on Thursday, May 2nd, in the Titan Center from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. During this event, we will be using an outside facilitator to solicit feedback from a variety of stakeholders to inform our strategic plan.
  • All are welcome, including parents, families, high school students, LOA alumni, and community and school leaders. Dr. Bowling requests that those intending to attend kindly RSVP via this link. This ensures that LOA can prepare for a productive feedback process and arrange childcare for those who need it.
  • On Tuesday, May 21st, the same outside facilitator will be leading LOA Faculty and Staff through the same process to solicit feedback for the strategic plan.

  • Cognia Accreditation
  • Dr. Bowling shared that he received the following correspondence from Cognia on March 29th, 2024: “Based on the findings of the Engagement Review Team and recommendation of the Accreditation Office, the Cognia Global Commission conferred Accredited status on your institution on March 29th, 2024.”

  • Charter Renewal Update:
  • On March 13th, the LOABOG and Dr. Bowling participated in a review interview with the GADOE District Flexibility and Charter Schools division. Following the interview, the Georgia Charter Advisory Committee unanimously recommended LOA for approval of their renewal contract for a five-year term by the State Board of Education.
  • Subsequently, Dr. Bowling shared that he attended the March 27th State Board of Education Committee Meetings, where the District Flexibility and Charter Schools Committee recommended: “that the State Board of Education renew a charter to Lake Oconee Academy, the petitioner for a grades K-12 local charter school approved by the Greene County Board of Education, for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2024 and ending June 30, 2029.”
  • On March 28th, the State Board of Education approved the charter renewal and charter renewal contract via the consent agenda.

  • LOA Waiting List:
