Construction Progresses at Woodchase Park

Drone footage captures the entire park site including trees lining the park, the performace pavilion, dog park (amoeba-shaped outline) and walkways.

Woodchase Park, located at 3951 Woodchase Drive, is on schedule to open later in the year as construction progress is noticeable around the entire property.

At 1.7 acres, Woodchase Park will be a fully programmed park which means it will host events such as arts and crafts classes, exercise classes, weekly book clubs and boot camps. Monthly activities might include gardening workshops.

Highrise Live Oak trees and crepe myrtles have arrived at the site while the construction of the performance pavilion has gone vertical. The pavilion's roof, support beams, building structure and foundation are now in place. The pavilion will be a focal point, hosting planned events and activities. Around the park, visitors will enjoy a children's play area, activity lawn, dog park, community garden, public art and restrooms. Bridges on Briar Forest and Riverview Debut New Murals


Pedestrians and cyclists trekking from Terry Hershey Trail can enjoy more art along the route that connects them to newly constructed sidewalks on CityWest Boulevard between Westheimer and Briar Forest. Artist Larry Crawford has painted murals on the east and west sides of the Briar Forest bridge cross walk.

His latest murals depict a stork and water lily pads, both representing nature sights and scenes found along the Westchase District Trail System.

Crawford also added murals nearby on the Riverview Drive bridge connecting Deerwood Drive to the Walnut Bend neighborhood.

The bridge murals join Crawford's other nearby public art work called "Paul Revere at Bat" which he painted on a traffic light cabinet box next to Paul Revere Middle School. The work is a tribute to the school's opening of its baseball field in 2016.

Custom Bus Shelter Design Enhanced by Pavers

The District's projects team demos the new bus shelter design being fabricated at NEC, Inc. The modern shelters feature aluminum and glass along with seat blocks.
Hardscape enhancements to the bus shelters include custom pavers along with 9-inch curbs which results in a quicker transit stop and makes it easier for transit riders to board a bus. 

Pavers have been laid at new modern bus shelters on Westheimer coming to Westchase District. The enhanced feature is a part of an exciting new bus shelter look to be installed throughout the District. In addition to pavers, the new shelters will have trash cans, seat blocks made of a concrete blend with a glossy finish and upgraded signage. The shelter is partially enclosed by impact-resistant glass within a sleek, slate gray metallic, powder-coated aluminum structure. The new shelters will be installed at 37 locations on Walnut Bend, Westheimer, Elmside and Woodchase. The project is funded by the District's 380 Program with the City of Houston in partnership with METRO.

Farmers Market Shopping with John Dombrowski

West Houston School Districts Are Focus of Chamber's Webinar Tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.



Alief Independent School District Superintendent HD Chambers, Spring Branch Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Blaine, and District 6 Board of Education Member Will Hickman are featured guest speakers in a webinar panel called Education - Impacts and Pain Points. Moderated by Butch Herod of UH Clear Lake, the event is part of the Houston West Chamber of Commerce's Governmental Affairs Luncheon Series presented by CenterPoint Energy. Grace Presbyterian Church Hosts Outdoor Movie


Bring your picnic blanket and lawn chair to Grace Presbyterian Church's athletic fields this Friday, March 26. That's when Grace will be hosting an Outdoor Family Movie Night and presenting the animated Pixar and Disney blockbuster "Cars". In "Cars", brash rookie sensation Lightning McQueen takes an unexpected detour in the American Southwest where he finds his inner engine to rev up for the coveted Piston Cup. The event starts at 6 p.m. Registration is required for admission.
