Inspired by our namesake
Thank you for making a difference!

Shevchenko

In March we traditionally celebrate the life and works of Ukrainian national poet, writer, artist, musician, philosopher, actor – Taras Shevchenko.

For the Ukrainian people he symbolizes the centuries old struggle for freedom. Although a child of several cultures, Shevchenko always longed for his homeland and fought fervently with the tools accessible to him – his pen and brush – for the inherent right of the Ukrainian people to live freely, in dignity on their own Ukrainian land.

Shevchenko also became the symbol of the modern-day Ukrainian revolution, his works inspiring those who defended the democratic rights of the Ukrainian people during the Orange Revolution of 2004, the Revolution of Dignity of 2014, and today’s unprovoked war being waged on Ukrainian land.

The namesake of our Foundation also inspires our mission here in Canada. Together with our partners, we believe in the beauty, passion, and diversity of Ukrainian culture. Through artistic expression, we jointly deliver a very powerful message of hope and unity.

As Canadians rally in support of the Ukrainian people today, we take pride in the many initiatives of our community. We support our artists who honour the creative legacy of Taras Shevchenko by inspiring us to have our voice heard.

In the words of Taras Shevchenko: Fight – you will prevail! We encourage everyone to support the Ukrainian people who are sacrificing their lives for our identity, our heritage and culture. Whether you attend a rally, write letters, pack humanitarian aid, perform, donate, or proudly wave the blue and yellow – it all makes a difference! Thank you for being Ukrainian!

Support Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal

So many of you ask, what can I do to help?

We encourage you to engage with Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) branches and organizations in your local community. There are many different efforts underway and volunteers are needed everywhere!

UCC National has set up an online questionnaire whereby you can directly specify your interest and availability. They'll match you with the right initiative. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/65YKNT8

If you would like to support the aid effort financially, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) and the Canada-Ukraine Foundation (CUF) have established the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. Working directly with Ukrainian government ministries, it will maximize donations to address the needs of the Ukrainian people efficiently and urgently.

The need is urgent! Please make a contribution today!
