Consortium Aims to Reduce School Bus Emissions Across Indiana

ST. JOHN, IN – Drive Clean Indiana, Indiana’s only U.S. Department of Energy designated coalition, that is focused on clean transportation announce the Indiana Clean School Bus Consortium (ICSB) in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus Program. The Clean School Bus Program, which was implemented under the Biden Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021, was put in place to “offer grants/rebates to replace existing school buses with clean models to reduce harmful emissions from older, dirtier buses”. The Clean School Bus Program will provide over $4 billion over the next four years to replace existing school buses with zero-emission and low-emission models.

Drive Clean Indiana has been Indiana’s leader in the advancement of the clean transportation sector for over 25 years. The goal of this consortium is to educate Indiana schools on the benefits of cleaner fuels, reduce emissions, save operating costs and prepare them with information on the various upcoming funding opportunities, while providing safe transportation for school children.

The Indiana Clean School Bus Consortium is created to be a resource for school bus fleets that provides peer-to-peer networking and dialogue-driven discussions for those interested in clean school buses. The Indiana Clean School Bus Consortium will consist of partners from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), the Indiana Department of Education, and many others. Drive Clean Indiana has developed a series of working group meetings that will offer insights on training, best management practices, provide updates on funding opportunities, and much more.
School districts will utilize this statewide working group with the goal of reducing barriers to the transition to cleaner school bus technologies.

In addition to several working groups, the Indiana Clean School Bus Consortium also gives stakeholders access to educational tools, resources, and subject matter experts to help support Indiana’s clean school bus fleet transition. We encourage those interested in Clean School Bus adoption to visit the Drive Clean Indiana website and register for an upcoming working group meeting. The Indiana Clean School Bus Consortium will hold its initial introductory webinar on Tuesday February 7, 2023.
