Solemnity of Corpus Christi (Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ) June 6, 2021

This weekend, when the Catholic Church in our Diocese celebrates the Solemn Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Bishop O'Connell welcomes all the faithful to return to full participation in the Holy Eucharist by lifting the dispensation from the Sunday/Holy Day Mass obligation.

Livestream the Sunday, June 6 12 Noon Mass This week in celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi, we will be livestreaming the 12 Noon Mass. In addition to the Mass, we will cover the outdoor procession that will immediately follow Mass. This procession has special importance in that Christ, here among us, walks with us on our pilgrimage to heaven.

Solemnity of Corpus Christi The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is also known as the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which translates from Latin to “Body of Christ.” This feast is celebrated on the Thursday following Trinity Sunday or on the Sunday following that feast. This feast calls us to focus on two manifestations of the Body of Christ, the Holy Eucharist and the Church. The primary purpose of this feast is to focus our attention on the Eucharist. The opening prayer at Mass calls our attention to Jesus’ suffering and death and our worship of Him, especially in the Eucharist. At every Mass our attention is called to the Eucharist and the Real Presence of Christ in it. The secondary focus of this feast is upon the Body of Christ as it is present in the Church. The Church is called the Body of Christ because of the intimate communion which Jesus shares with his disciples. He expresses this in the gospels by using the metaphor of a body in which He is the head. This image helps keep in focus both the unity and the diversity of the Church. The Feast of Corpus Christi is commonly used as an opportunity for public Eucharistic processions, which serves as a sign of common faith and adoration. June is Dedicated to the Sacred Heart

The "Sacred Heart of Jesus" symbolizes the mystery of Christ, the totality of His being: Son of God, uncreated wisdom; infinite charity, principal of the salvation and sanctification of mankind. The "Sacred Heart" is Christ, the Word Incarnate, Savior, intrinsically containing, in the Spirit, an infinite divine-human love for the Father and for his brothers. Devotion to the Sacred Heart is a wonderful historical expression of the Church's piety for Christ, her Spouse and Lord: it calls for a fundamental attitude of conversion and reparation, of love and gratitude, apostolic commitment and dedication to Christ and his saving work.

The 12 Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to St Margaret Mary

The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the first Catholic devotion specifically requested and established by Our Lord Jesus Christ, Himself, in His revelations over a period of two years to St. Margaret Mary Alocoque, a Visantine nun in France, beginning in 1693. The Church and Pope John Paul II strongly endorse the practice of the devotion especially in these difficult and uncertain times, when we all need the blessings of the “12 Promises” more than ever before. Faithful Catholics consecrate to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in a spirit of reparation, First Friday of each month.
