2022 National Police Week Fundraiser
Help us send 20 Louisiana Troopers to Washington, D.C.

The LMTA is hoping to support the Louisiana State Troopers Association (LSTA) and the Louisiana Troopers Charities in sponsoring 20 troopers to send to National Police Week in Washington, D.C. May 11-16.

Attending NPW gives our state's heroes the opportunity to fellowship with law enforcement across the country who have lost an officer, partner, and friend. Members will help uplift families of fallen officers whose names are being etched into the Law Enforcement Memorial and have the opportunity to attend officer-specific counseling to address their needs from a holistic perspective.
This year's National Police Week is even more important as troopers will honor one of Louisiana's fallen officers, Master Trooper Adam Gaubert, whose name will be added to the memorial.

Capitol Corner: LMTA's Weekly Legislative Overview
With Executive Director Renee Amar

This week at the legislature, Renee Amar testified on behalf of Rep Ken Brass' bill (HCR 69) in the House Transportation Committee. Rep Brass' bill urges LCTCS and the Department of Education to set up a curriculum for transportation courses.

As Amar noted in her testimony, "we need to get kids exposed to the trucking industry early on so they understand that we have great careers within trucking. Waiting until those same kids are 20-21 to expose them to trucking, hurts the industry and deters those young adults from entering our workforce. We believe taking this step will go a long way to helping close the workforce gaps that we have in many areas."

Also around the capitol, the legislature is in full force as we wrap up the seventh week of the legislative session. Both the state budget and capital outlay bills have made it through the mid-point of the legislative process and there is a plan to hold committee hearings on both bills early next week.

We are eagerly waiting for the bridge funding for the Calcasieu River bridge to be scheduled in the House. We will let you know as soon as that happens

Other bills of interest were heard this week at the capitol. Those bills are included in the report here.

We want to alert you that LA-SB 277 by Senate President Page Cortez will be heard in House Committee on Appropriations in the coming weeks.
