Nominate A Local Non-Profit to Receive our
Woven Basket Collection

Each month a different non-profit group which works locally receives the Woven Basket collection for the first four Sundays of the month. Fifth Sundays are for either the UUCD Leadership Fund or Emergency Fund. Ten months are open for nomination; two months are set aside for (1) CHUM, of which we are a member congregation; & (2) an organization chosen by children and youth in our Family Ministry program.

The goals of the Woven Basket Collection include the following:

  • To help people and work for justice.
  • To reach beyond the congregational boundaries to practice caring for one another and working for change/justice.
  • To increase UUCD presence in the Twin Ports.
  • To develop relationships with other helping organizations in the region.
  • To strengthen our personal and organizational connections with other groups in the community with shared values & goals.
  • To facilitate tax deductible giving at UUCD by offering our members a way to make tax deductible contributions that increase UUCD’s impact on the community and expands community awareness of UU principles.

Nominations will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Wed., May 18. You may nominate more than once but only one organization per form. Click here to nominate!

A ballot will be sent to voting members shortly after nominations are closed.
Heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to the fundraising campaign for our solar array. We are delighted by your generosity and have had enough response to move ahead toward scheduling the roof work and solar installation for this summer. Those who have questions regarding a gift for solar, or who wish to add their contributions to this project, please contact Sally Munger. You can also simply write a check to UUCD with Solar on the comment line and deliver it to Kathy in the office.

The UU Ministry for the Earth is a source for information and updates on faith-based work for climate justice. Also, MNIPL is advocating for state climate actions that could pass this session (letter to sign)!
We are Caring for Each Other

Every member and friend of UUCD is a member of the Caring Community. Our new organizational structure—team leaders volunteer to coordinate one quarter at a time—is a new approach, and we have been able to meet the needs of members and friends who have requested food, rides, visits, and other help that we can provide. Team leaders and Rev. Bruce meet on Zoom the last Monday of every month (the May meeting is May 23) as we try to keep up with needs of the community. Click here to see the list of this quarter’s team leaders to call or call Rev. Bruce with your ideas.
Supporting Refugees

Several members of UUCD and First Methodist have met twice to discuss forming a Sponsor Circle to help resettle more Afghan refugees in Duluth but no decision has been reached. We understand that the need for Afghans currently in the U.S. has largely been met. Sponsoring Ukrainian refugees was also discussed. This effort follows a very different program by individuals who are aware of specific Ukrainian people needing sponsorship.

If you are interested in receiving more information should the project develop further, please contact Cherie.
Race Against Racism will take place on May 15 and is a reimagining of YWCA Duluth’s long standing Mother’s Day Walk Run. The race raises funds to deliver on our mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

The race will begin at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC) and take place along the beautiful Lakewalk. You can participate in a 5K, a shorter 2-mile event, and your kids can join the kids' fun run! Each participant will receive a Race Against Racism t-shirt. $35 4/1 to 5/14 or $40 day-of (5/15). Click here to register. Registration is required.
Thanks to the ongoing work of our Welcoming and Affirming Team, UUCD again received ongoing certification as a Welcoming Congregation!

Only a few congregations in the U.S. receive this honor.

We're pretty proud of this!!
