248 Gift cards were given to Library staff at 33 libraries to thank them!
We work closely with the Finger Lakes Library System to carry out our annual library grant cycle which has granted over $1.3M in the past 11 years, fostering the love of reading and learning in our children and youth. These libraries are predominantly small and rural, providing important services related to early childhood literacy, access to storytimes, tween and teen book clubs, summer reading programs and so much more.
These libraries responded to the needs of their communities with immense creativity by providing curbside pickups, virtual storytimes, curriculum based Take and Make kits, Story Walks, family browsing appointments, outside summer reading programming and much more! Our libraries effectively rose to meet the needs of their communities, even when half of these libraries have fewer than four staff members. We celebrated them with a Library Appreciation Project!
President Biden just signed a bill establishing June 19 as
Juneteenth National Independence Day. The US federal holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, and it is the first federal holiday established since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983. Juneteenth gets its name from combining "June" and "nineteenth," the day that Gen. Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, bearing a message of freedom for the slaves there.

Women's Fund Supports Women in American Paleontology
While women no longer face many of the barriers that they once did, the work of achieving equity in paleontology is still ongoing. In the 21st century, paleontology is becoming a more welcoming science for everyone, regardless of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, class, or ability.
A grant from the Women's Fund supports this program which "explores the achievements, adventures, and discoveries made by women in American paleontology". Learn more in this video.
