PacSky Scout Wins BSA’s 2021 Western Region Adams Award!
For Everyone
Congratulations to Mateo Sabio Paese (Troop 222), whose Eagle Project was selected as BSA’s 2021 Western Region Adams Award Winner! For his Eagle Project, Mateo purchased, assembled and delivered 75 water filtration systems that would provide safe, purified drinking water to families in rural villages of northeastern Honduras. Mateo instructed local Hondurans in the assembly of the filtration systems and trained recipients in their maintenance. Mateo’s project improved the health and environment, and economically benefited families in northeastern Honduras. The filter systems provide clean, healthy drinking water, they eliminate debris associated with discarded plastic water sachets and bottles, reduce incubation sites for dengue-carrying mosquitos, and allow families to use income spent for water on other basic necessities. Benefits from these filtration systems were especially evident during quarantines imposed by the COVID-19 global pandemic as well as in the aftermath of hurricanes Eta and Iota, rated at Categories 4 and 5, respectively, which struck Honduras in November 2020. A video of Mateo’s project can be viewed here. Mateo is the fourth Scout from the Pacific Skyline Council to win the Western Region Adams Award since 2011. Congratulations, Mateo, on your project and this special recognition of its benefits!

Does Your Unit Accept Online Applications? Has Your Unit Updated Your Pin?
For Unit Leadership
Families up and down the peninsula are looking to join Scouts! And the Number One way they find your unit is through BeAScout.org. This is also the preferred way to have new members join your unit! When families see your unit on the map, they have the option to contact you And APPLY TO YOUR UNIT--but you must have your BeAScout pin updated AND online applications turned on. Please take five minutes and update your pin at my.scouting.org. Instructions can be downloaded here. COR's can now designate a registered member of the unit to approve adult applications. The online system will collect all national and council fees. This means you will not have to bring any paperwork or fees to the office. We encourage every unit to use this functionality as the only way for new members to join! Full details here.
