The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) just announced an opportunity to apply for $50,000 in Recreational Trails Program grants to build new Storybook Trails throughout Ohio. Storybook Trails bring the pages of a favorite book to life in nature, encouraging families to be outdoors and learning together. Grants will be awarded for $5,000-$10,000 to build new Storybook Trail projects.

Eligible applicants include cities and villages, counties, townships, special districts, state and federal agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

  • Storybook Trail construction or maintenance
  • Storybook trailhead construction or maintenance
  • Interpretive signage for a Storybook Trail

Each Storybook Trail is approximately half-mile long with 15-20 child-height panels that bring to life pages out of a children’s book and include an activity to encourage children to connect the story on the page to nature. There is also a Little Free Library at each site so visitors can borrow books for free or bring their favorite book to donate to the collection.

The ODNR Storybook Trail program started in 2019 to promote the importance of literacy, a healthy lifestyle, and connecting with nature. There are currently 10 Storybook Trails at Ohio State Parks located at Alum Creek, Burr Oak, Dillon, Findley, Great Seal, John Bryan, Mary Jane Thurston, Maumee Bay, Sycamore, and Wingfoot Lake State Parks.

April TechCred Round Exceeds 20,000 Credentials

Lt. Governor Jon Husted, who serves as Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, today announced the results of the April TechCred application period. Following eight rounds, over 23,700 credentials have been approved through TechCred, exceeding the DeWine-Husted Administration’s goal for the first two years of the program.

The most recent TechCred application period closed at the end of April. Today, 310 Ohio employers were approved for funding, resulting in Ohio employees earning up to 3,882 tech-focused credentials.

In addition, more small businesses took advantage of the program this round than ever before, with 124 small businesses requesting credentials.

With the approvals announced today, a total of 1,310 Ohio employers have been approved for funding, supporting the earning of 23,723 tech-focused credentials by Ohio employees. This round fulfills a commitment made by Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted to fund 10,000 credentials each year to help close the skills gap for growing technology jobs. This commitment was met within the first 19 months of the program.

The ninth TechCred application period opened on Tuesday, June 1st and closes June 30th at 3:00 p.m.

You can learn more about the program at TechCred.Ohio.gov. For more detailed information on the April application period, visit the TechCred Dashboard on Data.Ohio.gov.
