Cover Story: Haven Harbour Marina's Passages Bar & Grill opens
|
This weekend marks the official opening of Haven Harbour Marina's Passages Bar & Grill. A team of mostly new faces, led by recently hired Food, Beverage and Events Manager Thomasine Dolan, man a freshly painted and thoroughly cleaned dining space and bar, as well as a refreshed menu that features new spins on timeless regional favorites.
"The restaurant team is sprinkled with talent from across the globe, as well as from just around the corner" said Thomasine. "With over 75 years of combined hospitality experience, they're sure to wow guests with food, drinks and entertainment – all season long."
Included among the new fare offerings are the crab dip appetizer served in an EverGrain sourdough bread bowl, house-made crab cake of lump crab meat, vegan and vegetarian options sourced from the nearby Fresh Start Market, like corn fritters and courgette rolls with hummus; in addition to shrimp sautéed in a citrus brown butter and much, much more.
"We're all excited," added Thomasine. "Meeting new faces, and hopefully delighting guests with new menu items that they may not be accustomed to."
Operating hours, which will grow in the coming weeks, will be (for this weekend) 4:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. today and tomorrow, as well as 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1.
Join us for live music from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. both today and tomorrow, courtesy of Rick Sommers and Greg Shinn, respectively; as well as David Wallis of Wallis&Co on Sunday from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
The menu will change periodically throughout the summer, so check for updates to dishes and drinks, additions of seasonal specials, operating hours and more by visiting havenharbour.com.

First Things First: Making preparations for your 2022 boating season
|
With boats splashing each day and temperatures on the rise, it is time for a few preparation and spring safety pointers as the boating season draws near:
- Be sure that you have wearable, properly sized life jackets for each passenger, including children and pets. If you stow inflatable vests, make sure that the cartridges are up-to-date.
- Cold water kills. Although air temperatures are rising, Chesapeake Bay water temps are still in the 40s and 50s – and will not be suitable for safe swimming at longer durations until June. Take appropriate action if you and/or someone in your party are overboard while out on the water or in the marina basins.
- Inspect your overboard recovery gear and ensure that your ditch bag is complete. Check the expiration dates on your flares and make sure that all fire extinguishers are charged. Ensure that a first aid kit is on-board and well stocked. Replace old charts and tide books, and look for recent updates to GPS software – whether it be Raymarine, Garmin or Simrad systems.
- Make sure your boat’s registration documentation is current, and that the vessel has proper registration and mooring stickers applied to the hull. Ensure your insurance policy is up-to-date and adequate, and that Haven Harbour has a copy of the certificate.
If you have any questions, or would need assistance in getting ready for the coming boating season, do not hesitate to contact us at (410) 778-6697.
