WHAT'S HAPPENING

PICTURE BOOK CHALLENGE (All Locations) November is Picture Book Month, and what better way to celebrate than by reading one picture book each day! All ages are welcome to participate in this online reading challenge, taking place Nov. 1-30, to earn an entry into three drawings for gift cards from area businesses, plus the grand prize: gift cards and an original illustration by David LaRochelle. Register anytime at http://defiancelibrary.beanstack.org. ANIME CLUB (Sherwood Branch Library) For Anime Lovers in grades 6-12. This club meets every second Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m.. TEEN NIGHT THURSDAY (Defiance Public Library) Every Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to close, the teen space will be open to those in grades 6-12. Activities vary each week. MINECRAFT LEAGUE (Johnson Memorial Library) Minecraft League will meet every other Friday at 3:00 p.m. until November 19. No registration is required, and all Minecraft players are welcome!

OHIO'S HISTORIC HAUNTS (Stroede Center for the Arts) Legends and ghost stories abound in Ohio. Paranormal investigator James Willis, founder of ghostsofohio.org, has travelled all over the state gathering stories of hauntings, and he’s coming to share them with us Nov. 6 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Stroede Center for the Arts, 319 Wayne Ave., Defiance. ANIME CLUB (Johnson Memorial Library) For Anime Lovers in grades 6-12. This club meets the first Tuesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. GAMING LEAGUE (Defiance Public Library) Every Monday from 4:30 p.m. to close, those in grades 6-12 are invited to hang out and play video games, tabletop games, or card games. PRIDE & [NO] PREJUDICE (St. John UCC, Defiance) Pride & No Prejudice is an LGBTQIA+-friendly book club, meeting on the third Thursday of each month beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the lounge at St. John United Church of Christ, 950 Webster St., Defiance. Anyone 16+ is welcome to join the group. *Please park and enter on the north side of the church.

LITKIT They're themed, monthly boxes stuffed with library books and other goodies for cardholders ages 13-25. They will be available for pickup and drop-off at any DPLS library BUT here's the catch: We have a limited amount, only 10 to give out! The December theme is "Red or Green". THE GREAT TEEN READ It's a book discussion (#thegreatteenread) solely on Instagram! We post a picture or a video of the month's teen title and you leave your comments. This month we will be reading the novel "Any Sign of Life" by Rae Carson. When Paige Miller awoke everything was gone; her basketball team, her friends, and her family. Alone in the world, Paige wonders through the dark silence looking for some glimmer of hope. SQUEEZY McSQUEEZY

I crept into the secret laboratory to get a look at DPLS's Halloween Parade float. I cannot say more, but all who go to the parade will be in for a sweet surprise. The Lions Club Annual Halloween Parade is Saturday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m. Be sure to watch for our float!
