Arrests for Burglaries and Carjackings
CPS Mask Optional on March 14th
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Dear Neighbors,
We are pleased to report four recent arrests for serious cases in our general area.

At the same time, police issued an alert for some burglaries in our neighborhood. As the weather warms up, and people return to work, please be mindful that windows should not be left open and that doors should be locked with a good deadbolt. If you are a landlord, we recommend that you use a deadbolt with a longer than standard bolt. The Chicago Police have also noted these burglary prevention tips to keep in mind.
Three Arrests of Juvenile Offenders Charged with Aggravated Vehicular Hijackings - Firearm

The Vehicular Hijacking Task Force arrested a 16-year-old offender on March 4, 2022, in the 2100 block of W. 21st Pl. He was identified as the offender who entered a vehicle that was previously taken at gunpoint on February 26, 2022, from a 64 year- old in the 1400 block of N. Wells (18th District). The offender was placed into custody and charged with 4 felonies. No additional information is available at this time.

This follows an arrest we reported in our last newsletter of a 15-year-old arrested by the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force on February 28, 2022, in the 1100 block of S. Hamilton for the vehicular hijacking on December 2, 2021, of a vehicle by force from a 32-year-old female also in the 1400 block of N. Wells (18th District).

Another 16 year old was arrested on February 27, 2022, at 7:11 p.m. in the 100 block of W. 87th St, for taking, approximately 30 minutes earlier, a vehicle at gunpoint from a 56-year-old female in the 2600 block of N. Clybourn (19th District). Responding officers observed the offender inside the victim’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The offender attempted to flee on foot, but was placed into custody and subsequently charged accordingly.

This great police work by beat officers, and the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force is the kind of work that will blunt this wave of carjackings over time.
