HAPPY SUMMER BREAK!!

Medications: As this school year is coming to an end, it is important for you to know the following information. If you have provided your child with a prescription or over-the-counter medication this school year, it needs to be picked up, please. Medications cannot be stored over the summer and will need to be picked up by an adult at latest by May 27, 2021. Asthma medications will be sent home per district policy. All medications, including prescription medications, that are not picked up by the last day of school will be disposed of. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Here are a few little friendly reminders from the Nurse’s Office:
  • New incoming students of all grades please be sure to have an updated Immunization Record and Physical Exam to provide to the nurse the first week of school.
  • If your student has any health concerns that require medication, please have the necessary medication administration form filled out and signed by both parents and the physician to return the first week of school. Also, all medications provided to be administered at school MUST be in the ORIGINAL container or prescription bottle.

Remember this fun little tip this summer while enjoying being outside in the sun!
Slip, Slop, Slap and Wrap
Slip on a shirt
Slop on some sunscreen
Slap on a hat
Wrap on some sunglasses

Hope you all have an amazing, fun and safe summer break!

Lastly, if you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to contact Nurse Erin at eingalls@usd266.com.

This is a good time to get out the calendar and plan ahead for summer learning. Plan to focus a little bit each day on improving your student's skills in a fun way or attend summer school if your child was recommended. If you would like a list of teachers from the district who tutor over the summer, please contact us and we can send it home with your child or email you.

Celebrate this time of year and acknowledge the progress that your child has made in the classroom!

Hello Everyone!

It is the last month of school and that means FIELD DAY! Field day is on May 20th and May 21st during the student's PE time, but extended to 1 hour. Please send your student with tennis shoes and their water bottles because there will be some outside stations.

Unfortunately, parents cannot attend field day due to covid restrictions.

During May we will finish up fitness testing and review some of the main skills. We will also be doing a few weeks of our favorite games and activities. Thanks for another great year! See you in August!
Count Your Kid In Preschool Screening Clinic
Friday, May 7, 2021
The Kansas Department of Education invites you to attend a free Count Your Kid In screening. The purpose of the screening is to assess children, age birth through five, in the areas of walking, talking, seeing, hearing, and learning. The staff will assist you in the identification of any needs your child may have, and in locating services to meet those needs. This is not a "Kindergarten Screening."
The screening will be held at:
Cheney Elementary
126 W 5th
Cheney, KS 67025

Call 794-8641 (Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm) and schedule a FREE appointment. For children ages 0-5 that reside in the following districts: Maize, Burrton, Sedgwick, Renwick, Cheney, Conway Springs, Clearwater, Goddard, Valley Center.

A future screening will be held on June 8, 2021 at Colwich Elementary.
Are You Moving?
Please let the MES office know if your child or children will not be returning to the Maize School District next year. This helps us with 2021-2022 planning. Thank you for your assistance!

Important Information
Start Times & Transportation
Our school day starts at 8:45 am every day. Student drop off begins at 8:35 am. It is important that students are not dropped off prior to that time. This is a matter of safety as there are no staff members supervising until 8:35 am. Thank you for your cooperation.

If you need to drop your student off before this time, the YMCA has a latchkey program at MES. For more information, please call the YMCA at 316-264-1610.

Students who arrive after 8:50 am will be counted tardy. If a student is brought late to school, the parent must come in and sign them in on the clipboard in the vestibule.

Please call the office at 316-722-8230 if your child is going to be absent or if you have a transportation change.  For student safety, please let the office know of a transportation change before 3:00 pm.

If your student is riding a different bus home with a friend, a note is required from both sets of parents. These need to be given to the office for Mr. White to sign and can then be given to the bus driver.
New Policies
Masks will be worn by all staff and students. At this time, no visitors are allowed into the building during the school day.

Deliveries & Invitations
Please be aware that school district policy does not allow us to accept flowers, lunch or other deliveries to students at school. Please contact your student's teacher to arrange a time to celebrate a special occasion with treats, etc.

BOE policy does not allow party invitations to be distributed at school. Please refer to the Skyward Family Access Student Directory or your classroom directory for student addresses.
Food Service
USD 266 uses the Skyward Food Service and RevTrak fee payment systems. Please check your email and phone numbers in Skyward, so you may be alerted when your child only has 2 lunches left. Parents receive an email when your child has $5.00 left in their account. Parents receive a 2nd email after your child has 1 lunch left. You will also receive a 3rd email when your child has a zero balance.

Parents may keep as large a balance as they wish in a child's account. If the student doesn't have enough in his/her lunch account to cover a meal, the account will be charged for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and milk if the student chooses to take one. No meal charges will be allowed and we are not allowed to go into one child's account to pay for a sibling.

Daily lunches are $2.50 each and extra milk is .40 cents. Lunch menus can be found online at usd266.com.

If you have any questions regarding Skyward and the RevTrak system, please call our school office. We want every child to have a good lunch, every day!
