MESSAGE

FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

April 20, 2022

Hello, Bear Families!

At the April 19, 2022, North Royalton City Council meeting, it was announced that the School District and City are in the process of securing an agreement to transform a portion of the former Royal View Elementary School into a city senior center.

In a press release to our community, Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz said...

“For a number of years, I have heard our seniors continually ask for a better senior center facility. I listened, and this is an answer to their needs. It is also another shining example of the great working relationship we have enjoyed for a number of years with the School District. I believe this is a prudent use of tax dollars and is an efficient utilization of available space for the benefit and enjoyment of our seniors. There are some renovations we need to perform to a portion of the building before we move. Our goal is to have things in place and ready to move in by the first of the year. I believe this is a way to provide better services for our seniors and address their needs, while still being fiscally responsible and cognizant of taxpayer dollars.”

Any time the District can partner with the City of North Royalton to serve the community and save taxpayer dollars it is a win for everyone. This is one example of the many ideas the Mayor and I have discussed. We are excited to see this happening and look forward to other partnerships that make sense for our community.

Details are still being finalized at this point. The back of the Royal View Elementary School building is still being targeted for the construction of a permanent Safety Town, which is another example of a city/schools partnership.

We are hoping that the rest of the building will someday house the central office administration for the District and perhaps a professional development area. At this time, there is not a specific timeline in place for that conversation as there are other capital needs we would like to address first.

Mike

North Royalton City Schools Recognizes 2021-22 Friend of Education

North Royalton City Schools recognize Kim Ponting, PTA President of North Royalton Elementary School, as the 2021-22 Friend of Education at the April 11 Board of Education meeting. This annual award goes to a person or persons who significantly contribute to North Royalton City Schools, help inspire and empower students, and dedicate themselves to making North Royalton and Broadview Heights great places.

Throughout the 2021-22 school year, North Royalton Elementary School has faced a multitude of “new” challenges…new building, new learning spaces, new teammates, new schedule, new reading series, and the ongoing Covid-19 challenges. Every step of the way, our District has been supported by the PTA, as they have been ready and willing to step up at a moment’s notice to provide funding to support any new endeavors.

As the challenges of Covid-19 started to subside, the schools received numerous requests from teachers about the availability of parent volunteers to help with various tasks at the new building. It only takes one phone call or email to request that assistance and numerous names have filled up the Sign Up Genius ready and willing to answer the call.

“When faced with the daunting task of photographing 1,450 elementary students in one day for School Picture Day, it was the collaboration with our PTA leadership that made it possible by securing enough volunteers to make sure everything ran smoothly,” said Principal Kirk Pavelich, North Royalton Elementary School.

During the long month of March when the morale of the staff needed a boost, all it took was a partnership with PTA to deliver the Cleveland Cookie Dough truck to the front of the building, where every single member of staff was able to enjoy a cookie dough or ice cream treat.

“Kim has been able to merge the ideas of the parent volunteers from Albion, Royal View and Valley Vista Elementary into a new cohesive unit,” said Superintendent Mike Laub, North Royalton City Schools. “We are thankful for her support and volunteerism during this pivotal year for our elementary school.”

“I applaud and appreciate your unwavering commitment to serving military-connected students and families,” said Dr. Stephanie K. Siddens, Interim Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Inducts North Royalton High School Students into National Technical Honor Society

On Wednesday, April 6, Cuyahoga Valley Career Center (CVCC) inducted new members into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). NTHS honors career-technical high school students who excel in scholarship, leadership, service and character. The three students from North Royalton High School who were inducted include Edward Macak, junior, Media Arts; Brennen Valley, junior, Machine Technology; and Jake Csincsar, junior, Power Equipment Technology.

Membership is determined by a student’s scholastic achievement, attendance, deportment, participation in career-technical student organizations and teacher recommendations. Final selections are made by a committee of CVCC staff. Members organize activities that promote school spirit and fundraisers to help social causes. These activities help develop leadership skills, a sense of school unity and community.

“I am proud of our students who have shown academic dedication to their CVCC programs and leadership in their career technical student organizations,” said Principal Sean Osborne, North Royalton High School. “The skills and experiences that our students gain while at CVCC will benefit them for the rest of their lives.”
