School Safety Drill Conducted Today

In cooperation with the Broadview Heights Police Department, we conducted a school safety drill today that focused on an intruder trying to access the school building. We are thrilled to report that the "undercover" police officer could not enter our building and gain access to the halls or classrooms. The officer, who posed as an intruder, was stopped by staff at both the Main Entrance and the Auditorium Entrance doors. In addition, the officer posing as an intruder was confronted by a student in the Red Parking Lot by a student who identified them as not being a BBHHS student and observing the unusual behavior of the undercover officer.

Throughout the day, Officer Kevin Pozek and Mr. Josh Backo visited with BBHHS students to review safety procedures and discuss best practices with our students in the event of a lockdown or school intruder. We are grateful to our staff and students for their outstanding efforts today throughout the drill process.

Ohio State Test and Advanced Placement Testing

Starting next week, Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School will begin administering our required Ohio State Tests (EOCs).  Please note that we will have four days of delayed start times on April 16th, April 17th, April 22nd, and April 23rd.  We will begin with ELA II testing on Tuesday, April 16th, and Wednesday, April 17th. Today, students received their assigned testing location via email to their BBHHS email account. Please encourage them to review their assignment before the testing session. We also request that students come prepared for the testing session with their fully charged school-issued Chromebook. If a student has declined the use of their Chromebook, a device will be issued to them at the start of the testing period.

Transportation and cafeteria services will run as regularly scheduled on delayed test dates. If needed, students who are not testing arrive at the regular school day start time and will be scheduled in a monitored study hall in the cafeteria.

Juniors attending CVCC should report to CVCC for their regularly scheduled program and report times on the delayed start dates unless they take an EOC. Due to the delayed start time, seniors who attend CVCC should not attend BBHHS for their regularly scheduled afternoon classes.

Many of our Advanced Placement teachers will be running practice test sessions on the deleted start dates shared above. Students may be required by their teacher to attend these sessions. Staff will communicate their expectations to students required to attend these AP test preparation periods on the delayed start days. Also shared below is the AP testing schedule.

Next Level Prep Session at BBHHS

Attention, current sophomores, and juniors: The final Next Level Prep college entrance exam testing session will be returned to BBHHS.   This year's seminar will cover material and test-taking strategies for the SAT and ACT and will take place on Friday, April 26th, 8:00 AM - 2:45 PM. Please click here for more information on NLP and to register for this phenomenal test prep opportunity.

Attention Seniors Interested in Speaking at Graduation

We are excited to invite our seniors to apply to serve as a class speaker at this year's commencement ceremony. If your senior is interested in addressing their classmates and the families of our graduates, please encourage them to submit a speech of approximately three to five minutes in length for consideration. Suggested themes are sharing memories of the student's educational journey as a part of the BBHCSD, hopes or advice for the future, and words of encouragement for their classmates.

The deadline for speech submissions is Friday, April 26th, by 3:00 PM. Submitted speeches must be typed and double-spaced and delivered to the main office. Following this deadline, a committee of teachers and building administration will review the speeches for evaluation and final selection.

Selected speakers will be notified and have support in preparing to deliver their speeches, with revisions and rehearsals provided by BBHHS faculty members. We hope many seniors will consider submitting speeches for this memorable occasion.

Please contact Ms. Treter in the main office with any further questions or need any assistance.

Third Quarter Merit and Honor Roll Recognition

Our students continue to demonstrate a commitment to learning and academic achievement. We wish to congratulate those students who have been recognized as members of the Honor Roll or Merit Roll for the Second Quarter. In order to be awarded Honor Roll status, a student must achieve a grade point average of 3.75 or better; Merit Roll status is awarded to students who achieve a grade point average of 3.00 to 3.749. A grade of D, U, WF, or F in any class precludes a student from earning this academic recognition and be enrolled in a course offered at BBHHS and/or CVCC.

Final Exam Waiver Opportunity

We are excited to share that the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School faculty and administration have once again adjusted final exam requirements for courses that already include an end-of-course assessment structure. Students will have the option to waive the required final exam for courses where significant data points are already available to teachers, students, and families.   Students will also still be given the opportunity to take the final exam for any course if they and the teacher agree that it is in the student’s best interest to demonstrate achievement and learning. We believe this change will positively impact students and reduce their time spent preparing for exams where sufficient evidence of learning exists.

Courses Eligible for Final Exam Waiver Include:

  • All College Board Advanced Placement courses
  • College Credit Plus English 1020
  • College Credit Plus Calculus 2023

Ohio State Test-Assessed Courses (EOCs)

  • Block, Academic, and Algebra I Lab
  • Block, Academic English Language Arts 10, and Honors American Lit
  • Block, Academic Geometry, and Honors Geometry
  • Academic Biology and Honors Biology
  • Academic Government and Honors American Government
  • Academic American History and Honors Academic History

Advanced Placement and CCP Course Final Exam Waiver Structure

To ensure students are well prepared for their Advanced Placement exam and to qualify for the final exam waiver, the student must demonstrate/agree to the following criteria for exam waiver consideration for Advanced Placement courses:

  • Students must take the Advanced Placement exam for the associated course
  • Students must be on track to earn a C or better for the final grade in the course
  • Agree that the 4th quarter grade is “carried over” and factored into the student's final grade
  • Students will have the opportunity to take a final exam at their request during the regularly scheduled exam period for the course*

Ohio State Test-Assessed Courses

Students taking courses with an Ohio State Test component can also waive the final exam requirement. To ensure students are well prepared for their Ohio State Test and to qualify for the final exam waiver, the student must demonstrate/agree to the following criteria for exam waiver consideration for all scheduled Ohio State Test courses:

  • Students must take the Ohio State Test as scheduled for the associated course
  • Students must be on track to earn a C or better for the final grade in the course
  • Students must earn a score of a 5, 4, 3, or 2 on their Ohio State Exam (students scoring a 1 must take the scheduled exam)

Students will have the following options to select from to determine their final exam grade:

  • Tie Final Exam grade tied to the earned EOC score (5-A, 4-B, 3-C, 2-D, 1-must take final)

-or-

  • 4th Quarter Grade Extends to Final Exam grade
  • Students will have the opportunity to take a final exam at their request during the regularly scheduled exam period for the course*

Rising Senior Meningitis Vaccination Requirement Notice

Please note that students entering the 12th grade are required by law to receive their second Meningitis vaccination before the first day of school during their senior year. Annual notification is made to ensure families have plenty of time to ensure their child receives the required vaccination before the 2024-2025 school year starts. If your child has already received the second dose, you may begin submitting your child's updated immunization record to our Health Care Coordinator, Kim DiRocco. If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact Ms. Kim DiRocco at 440-740-4406 or through email at kim diroccok@bbhcsd.org
