The last day of April welcomed us to a beautiful evening for Jeanne Casteen’s Kick-Off event hosted by Whit and Janet Johnson. Attended by so many teachers and supporters of Jeanne’s campaign across the valley, it was great to hear all of the speakers and especially Jeanne provide her support for teachers in our state.

The evening was magical but I would be remiss in not addressing the elephant in the room - little did we know that only 48 hours later after this glorious party, we would hear about a leak of a draft opinion by the Supreme Court involving the court’s intention to abolish a nationwide right to abortion.

This is precisely the reason why we need to work hard to get Jeanne Casteen elected to the AZ State Senate and Rep Judy Schwiebert re-elected to the AZ State House so that a women’s right to choose in AZ are not taken away.

Let’s unite, as we did at Jeanne’s kick-off, to spread the news of this great candidate.

HELPING OUR LD2 CANDIDATES

Do you have a pick-up truck? Can you help bring folding chairs to various events for our LD2 candidates such as house parties and candidate in the park events?

What are the other ways you can help? Can you make phone calls? Can you help knock on neighborhood doors? Can you drive a door knocker which is especially important in the summer? Can you host a house party with your neighbors? These are just some of the ways you can help our LD2 Candidates get their message out to our voters. This is especially important in the regions of our district where we don’t have any PC representation which we learned about our April meeting.

DESIGN A NEW LD2

Wanted: Logo designs for LD2 Democrats.

We are seeking submissions for a new LD2 logo to be incorporated into our social media platforms, printed materials, name badges, banners, t-shirt, and more so that we have a consistent look and feel to our “brand”. You don’t have to live in LD2 in order to submit your artwork. You can enter more than once. However, only PCs can vote for the winning logo at our June 15th LD meeting (provided we have an adequate number of submissions). Winner will receive a gift card.

Here are the details:

• It must specify our LD number
• It must include the word Dems or Democrats
• It can not include any copyrighted material
• The LD2 Board reserves the right to reject unsuitable submissions
• Deadline for submission: June 6th

 LD2 HAPPY HOURS RETURN! 

Happy Hours return! As a way to attract more people to LD2 Democrats while supporting local businesses, your LD2 Board is bringing back Happy Hour events starting in June. We will begin in the Northern section of LD2 and will need your help to promote this event.

More details in next week’s newsletter, but pencil in June 8th and June 14th from 5-7pm for our first event.

As we heard during the April LD meeting, our very own PC: Craig Beckman mentioned he will be running for the Deer Valley Unified School Board. It gets better. Not only is Craig running, but another Democrat: Stephanie Simacek who is a current substitute with kids in the district is running, too.

May 18: LD2 Monthly Meeting at Paradise Valley Community College Conference Center, 6:30pm

LD2’s first on-site, hybrid meeting begins on May 18th. The PVCC Conf Center is located at 32nd St and Grovers with their own parking lot. Note the meeting time has changed to 6:30pm. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

There is a new Citizens Initiative creating a series of VOTING RIGHTS statutes that address both the AZ voting suppression bills passed in 2021 and some of those being considered in 2022 by the AZ Legislature.
