Dear Friends,
With spring on its way, March is busy here at the library. This month, we are collecting for the New Milford Rotary Club’s “Non-Food” Drive to support the New Milford Food Pantry. Every year, the Rotary Club holds a day of service to support the community in some essential way. They recently discovered that some of the most needed items at the Food Pantry are actually non-food items; particularly diapers for babies in large sizes (5, 6, and up) and adult incontinence pads because they are so costly. Other things that are often in short supply include laundry detergent, wipes, cleaning supplies, feminine care products, soap, toothpaste, and paper goods. The Rotary Club will be collecting these items on Saturday, April 9th from 9-12 at the Pettibone Community Center. For those who cannot make it on that day, the library will be serving as a drop-off location for the entire month of March. Just leave your donations in the collection box in the stairwell by the front lobby and we will deliver them to the Rotary Club event on April 9th.
Also this month, our new Public Services Librarian, Denise Martens is getting programming up and going again for adults. Since she began here at the end of January, Denise has been hard at work researching and scheduling events that will take place in person and/or online via Zoom. There is an event every Thursday in March with more to come as we get back up to speed.
Join us at the Marsh Parish House for a Craft Exchange/Meet & Greet on March 3rd between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Drop by with your unused craft supplies and trade for someone else’s. No registration necessary. The library will supply a few items to get the swap going. Denise and I will both be on hand to say hello and to hear your ideas for the updated library. Thank you to the Friends of the Library for renting this space that allows us to continue in-person programming while we are under construction.
We will also be hosting an event about the Pollinator Pathway on March 10th at 6:30 p.m. As New Milford takes steps to become a Bee City, come learn how you can help to make our town pollinator friendly. Registration is required for this program. Join us in person at the Marsh Parish House or sign up to get the Zoom link. Check out our calendar for other events.
