Its new project addresses vaccine hesitancy through targeted and differentiated programming and communication campaigns at the community level.

In 2014, Francis Duggan, MD (C’89, M’95), founded Health Care Volunteers International to leverage the knowledge and experience he has acquired in over 25,000 hours of international volunteer work. Since that time, he and HCVI have served Haiti, Cambodia, Kenya, Nicaragua and now Ukraine.

GHUCCTS Announces Amanda Blair Spence, MD, as New KL2 Scholar

Following a highly competitive 2022 cycle, infectious disease physician Amanda Blair Spence, MD, assistant professor of medicine at Georgetown School of Medicine, has been selected by the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) as the newest KL2 scholar.

As previously shared, the frigid weather experienced over the holidays led to many burst pipes across the university including one in the MedDent Building.
|
Here is an update as of January 8:
- The drying and dehumidifying of affected areas is almost complete and restoration work will begin shortly.
- Offices on the 1st and 2nd floor of the NE corridor remain closed due to damage. Please continue to avoid this area and use the south entrance (podium) to access the building.
- The process of taking an inventory of damaged furniture, electronics and other materials begins this week.
If you have been directly affected by the flood and have questions, please contact Elliott Crooke for infrastructure matters or Mary Glasscock for administrative matters including reporting damaged equipment and requesting temporary office space.

The Georgetown University Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (GUROP) is an undergraduate research assistantship program that allows undergraduates in any discipline to build their skills in scholarly inquiry. Participants work under the direction of a Georgetown University professor for approximately 60 hours over the course of one semester. New Federal Grant Regulations Require Digital Persistent Identifier

As of January 1, all recipients of federal research grants are required to have a “digital persistent identifier” (DPI) such as the Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier (ORCID) supported by the Dahlgren Memorial Library. DML Awarded RADIANCE Grant
|
Dahlgren Memorial Library (DML) was recently awarded a RADIANCE Grant from the Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs. The DML proposal for the RADIANCE (Respect, Advocacy, Diversity, Inclusion, Anti-racism, Collaboration, Equity) included the expansion of the library’s offerings to support teaching diversity and anti-racism. Members of the GUMC community are encouraged to recommend new electronic books on these topics for purchase.

Hospital Construction Equipment Removal Starts January 13
|
The remaining tower crane at the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Medical/Surgical Pavilion construction site will be removed beginning Friday, January 13 through Sunday, January 15. The work will involve several large trucks traveling in and out of campus via Reservoir Road NW. Work may continue into Monday, January 16 if any unexpected circumstances or inclement weather occur. No significant disruption to normal traffic flow is expected.

Using Altmetric data, Carbon Brief identified a paper by Colin Carlson, PhD, assistant professor of microbiology and immunology, as the most talked-about climate or energy-related publication of 2022. “Climate change increases cross-species viral transmission risk” by Carlson, et. al. “clocks in with an Altmetric score of 7,803 - the highest score for any climate paper featured in Carbon Brief’s annual reviews and only the second time the top-scoring paper has surpassed 7,000,” according to Carbon Brief. “The study was covered in 716 news stories by 558 outlets around the world, including the Guardian, New York Times, Agence France-Presse, Al Jazeera and New Delhi Times. It was also picked up in 44 blog posts.”
