Mayor Seren: “Full Speed Ahead” on Cedar Lee Meadowbrook following Issue 9 Defeat
Cleveland Heights, Ohio—Today, Cleveland Heights Mayor Kahlil Seren issued the following statement following unofficial results from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections showing that Issue 9 in Cleveland Heights had gone down in defeat:

“Tuesday’s defeat of Issue 9 clears the way for us to move full speed ahead on the Cedar Lee Meadowbrook development. The City has been working to make this project a reality for more than 15 years, one step at a time. The Cedar-Lee-Meadowbrook project will build on all the things residents love about the area. This development will enhance a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood that will draw people from across the region to Cleveland Heights.

I appreciate that Cleveland Heights voters took the time to understand this issue and did what they thought was best for Cleveland Heights. I couldn’t agree more.”

On the passage of Issue 10, Mayor Seren added:

“I have long supported restoration of City Council’s ability to hire staff, which was removed by the Strong Mayor Charter amendment that was passed in 2019. I believe that removal was a mistake so I was pleased to see Issue 10 pass, allowing Council to regain its authority to hire a Clerk.

My administration has been providing Council with support for the last four months; but now that Issue 10 has passed and the Finance Director is no longer the ex officio Clerk of Council, it is time for Council to fulfill its responsibility to manage its own operations, fund this new position, and navigate the realities of hiring and retaining an employee.”
