FEATURED THIS WEEK
Traditional Worship Returns
for In-Person Service
Beginning Sunday, May 30, at 10am

We are happy to announce that we intend to transition back to our building for in-person worship on a limited basis beginning Sunday, May 30, for our 10:00am Traditional Worship service in the sanctuary. We will be using a registration system that helps us manage attendance limits for everyone’s safety – more on that below.

Your safety is our priority. Therefore, we’ll be utilizing CDC safety protocols which include distancing, wearing masks, hand sanitizing, and practicing safe entering and exiting procedures for all who participate in in-person worship.

We will not be serving any food or beverages at this time. Sunday school will be available and, whenever possible, will be held outdoors this summer. More specific information will be mailed mid-May.

If you would like to attend the 10:00am Traditional Worship service in person, you will need to register each week. Information on how to register online or by phone will be sent out in mid-May. Registration for each Sunday will open the previous Monday morning at 9:00 AM and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. If the registration fills to capacity--or for any reason you prefer not to return to the building just yet--please continue to worship by livestream (worship services will continue to be available online).

At this time, only the 10:00am Traditional Worship service will be in person. Sacred Journey worship will continue to be streamed online at 8:30am every Sunday as it has been for the past year.

Do you have questions? Comments?
We are hosting listening posts in the coming weeks.
Meeting links and numbers will be available at haumc.org/events. If you do not have access to a computer and wish to participate via phone, please call the church for call-in information.

MINISTRY NEWS
Passionate Worship
In the Gospel of Luke, we learn that as the risen Jesus appeared to his disciples, “in their joy they were disbelieving.” We can imagine them saying "We just can't believe it. We just can't believe it!"

But finally, they did believe, and when they did Jesus entrusted them with the task of witnessing this miracle to others. Maybe you, too, find yourself saying, I just can't believe it! – or find yourself wondering what the “it” is that you believe about Easter.

Together we will explore how we understand the mystery of the resurrection, and how we are called to bear witness to the ways that God brings new life and hope into the world.

Support "Food for the People" CSA

Looking for a way to support local farmers and BIPOC neighbors? Check out Food for the People CSA!

The mission of this program is to provide locally grown food to Black, Indigenous, and communities of color while supporting a cooperative of local, diverse farmers to earn a living wage.

This program was created because as farmers we believe everyone should have access to locally and responsibly grown farm food, not just those with financial wealth, and that operating a small farm and feeding your local foodshed should be a dignified job, not one of poverty and scarcity. Please join us in supporting this work! Find more information and ways to contribute at www.sharedgroundcoop.com.

In 2020, the Food for the People CSA program. donated CSA shares to 62 low-income BIPOC families in the Twin Cities. This year they are working to increase that number to 100 families.

Walk for Hope: Fundraiser to Support Common Hope
Sunday, June 13 | 12noon

Hello HAUMC Amigos!

This year we are registered again to Walk For Hope in honor of Ana and Josue (our sponsored students in Guatemala). We are going the extra mile this year to support the 3000+ students that Common Hope supports! Will you join us?

1.    Join our team or donate to our page and help us spread the word with your friends! https://give.commonhope.org/HAUMCWalk2021

·       $96 helps fund one month of support for a student!
·       $576 helps fund six months of support for a student!
·       $1,152 helps fund one year of support for a student!

2.     Walk with us on Sunday, June 13th, at noon. We will meet at HAUMC’s parking lot. Everyone is welcome!

We walk because less than 20% of kids graduate from high school in Guatemala. We walk to support education for students living in poverty so that they can graduate from high school and help end generational poverty for their families. We walk for the kids just starting school, where they will likely hold a book for the first time. We walk, so families have access to quality health care. We walk to help young people dream, grow, and succeed. We walk the Extra Mile to fight poverty with diplomas!

Last year, walkers raised more than $115,000 for Common Hope programs! Every dollar you raise Walking for Hope directly supports education for kids, health care, housing, and programs for their entire family.
Visit www.commonhope.org to learn more or contact Teresa Bettmann at TeresaB@us.commonhope.org if you have questions or need additional information!

The local justice mission is a collaborative effort from five area United Methodist Church's and is open to middle and high school students.

More details are coming soon. Please mark your calendars.

2021 Tax Incentives for Giving to Hennepin Avenue UMC

Two charitable giving incentives of the CARES Act are extended for 2021. Here’s what it may mean for planning your giving to Hennepin:

1. Expansion of the universal charitable deduction for cash gifts. For taxpayers taking the standard deduction, the “above-the-line” deduction is $300 for single filers, and (increased to) $600 for married couples filing jointly.

2. Extension of the cap on deductions for cash gifts. For those who itemize, the cap on annual gifts continues for 2021 at up to 100% of the taxpayer’s adjusted gross income (AGI).

Again, these tax incentives are available only for cash gifts to qualified charities.

For more details on these incentives, or other tax-wise gift options to fulfill your annual pledge or to make a legacy gift, contact Jack Fistler, 612-435-1321, or jack@haumc.org.
