SCRLC Technology and Digitization Grant Round Open
If you are a SCRLC governing or affiliate member, you are encouraged to submit a creative proposal that improves regional access and resource sharing through technology. Digitization projects are also encouraged, as they allow materials to be accessed regionally through New York Heritage, New York State Historic Newspapers, and the Empire Archival Discovery Cooperative.

For 2021-2022, applications are especially encouraged for:
●     partnerships increasing representation of and with communities that have been historically and systematically oppressed;
●     geographically underrepresented communities in the SCRLC region;
●     innovative approaches to using digitized collections for projects such as walking tours, virtual tours, and HistoryForge participation.

Applications need to be sent electronically to Claire Lovell ([email protected]) by Friday, April 30, 2021.

Black Oral History Collection: Conversations
Chemung County Historical Society has been digitizing their Black Oral History Project, comprised of 22 interviews from 1989 through 1991. They recently recorded a panel discussion with some leaders of Elmira's Black community, reflecting on the oral history subjects. Check it out on YouTube here!

Fenimore Art Museum Opens
The Fenimore Art Museum re-opens in April with new exhibitions, including Manzanar: The Wartime Photographs of Ansel Adams and The World of Jan Brett. Both look amazing and are supplemented with live Zoom lectures in the coming months.
They're also opening the exhibition Hamilton's Final Act: Enemies and Allies, featuring correspondence between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr leading to their infamous duel. You can see some of the correspondence online on NYHeritage.

Finger Lakes Region as National Heritage Area
Thanks to the History Center in Tompkins County for sharing this news! The National Park Service is conducting a study to determine the feasibility of designating the Finger Lakes region of New York as a National Heritage Area (NHA). Read about it here and consider submitting comments in support!

Tourism Grants for The History Center
Congratulations to the History Center in Tompkins County for a $14,000 Arts and Culture Organization Development Grant! They'll use the grant money for programs and community outreach.

New Website for Cortland County Historical Society
A new https://cortlandhistory.org/ has been launched, and it looks awesome! Executive Director Tabitha Scoville has recently posted a series of interesting articles about the street names of Cortland.

Civil War Lectures
Chemung County Historical Society's 16th Annual Civil War Speaker Series will be online this year, so check them out on their Facebook page on Thursdays in April at 7:30.

Gardening with a Purpose
MANY recently featured the Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Site for its generous donations of locally grown produce. The Sonnenberg team has effectively made use of the site's historic grounds to grow half a ton of food that they donate each year, a charitable effort that had also been made by its original owners in the 19th century. They've used the utility garden as part of outreach with day camp participants from ARC and YMCA. Grants to support the garden have come from the local Rotary, Garden Club, and Walmart, among others.

Apply by April 5th to be a part of the MOMSI study. They have a small stipend of $750 to help incentivize your visitors to participate in the study. They expect your workload to be 5 hours per week from October 2021 through May 2022. The benefits for you include staff training, an individualized report useful for advocacy, and professional networking.

Consider sharing your knowledge and experiences creating archival descriptions and finding aids as part of a project to work toward a National Finding Aid Network.
