Hello GRES Families!
We have a lot of exciting things happening next week: Teacher Appreciation Week, the Art Show and Food Truck Event, and continued IAR testing.
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week and we appreciate all the donations that have come in as we look to celebrate all the staff and the hard work that represent this year! Thank you! If you haven't yet, check out the link below to submit a staff shout out for any of the wonderful GRES team members.
Tuesday, 5/4 is our first ever Drive-Thru Art Show. Mrs. Moss has done an incredible job taking every face-to-face students' individual pieces of work and turned them into 25 amazing masterpieces! Come check out the art display and grab dinner on your way out from one of the food trucks.
Next week kicks off IAR testing for our 3rd and 4th grade students. In preparation for testing days, it is a great idea for student's to get a good night's sleep and have a healthy breakfast.
Please remind your child(ren) to return all library books by May 11th!!
If you haven't paid your school fees, you may do that in the HAC. Emails were sent to families that have an outstanding balance in the last couple weeks.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to continually enhance the services we provide to our families.
Sincerely,
Michele Breyne
GRES Principal

Staff Shout Out
“Mr. Johnson has done an amazing job with his e-learning teaching. He goes above and beyond to keep the kids engaged, encouraged, and challenged. You can tell he has put so much time and effort into his teaching. We appreciate all he has done. Thank you Mr. Johnson!!!”!
I know you know this, but Mrs. Moss and Mr. Johnson rock! They kindly shared some awesome ideas at collaboration today with over 80 colleagues. Mrs. Moss (with the help from her wonderful Special team) put on a puppet show to kick it off and set the tone. Mr. Johnson shared some organization and engagement strategies he has used this year for e-learning. Their leadership, humbleness, and willingness to always share are much appreciated and I wanted to make sure I gave them a much-deserved shout-out!

Best Community for Music Education
Congratulations to all! For the fourth consecutive year, Yorkville has been named as a Best Community for Music Education by NAMM. Yorkville is one of 14 school districts in Illinois to receive the designation this year. This year's application process focused on innovation and instruction during the pandemic. We are proud of our students, educators, administration, Board of Education, and community for this outstanding recognition!

Input needed to help set foundation's funding priorities
Yorkville Educational Foundation (YEF), the nonprofit partner of Yorkville CUSD 115, has raised more than $125,000 since its inception. YEF is seeking the community's input through a short 10-question survey regarding which programs to invest in district-wide. All participants will be entered into a drawing for a $250 grant to go towards the Y115 school of his/her choice.
Even if you're not familiar with the foundation, your input is valuable for future planning.

SEAKers
Grande Reserve has joined the SEAKers in completing weekly kindness challenges! SEAKers, which stands for Students Engaging in Acts of Kindness, was created by Mandy Kelly, a 6th grade teacher in California. The goal of the SEAKers is to “make the world a better place through small acts of kindness”. Each week students will be challenged with small acts such as holding the door open, doing an extra chore at home, or giving someone a genuine compliment. Each week we will shoutout the class with the most SEAKers!
Families are welcome to join in at home too! Check out the SEAKers website and facebook page below!

Please send us any photos of your child(ren) doing Acts of Kindness; we'd love to feature them! :)

We would like to add a special section to our weekly newsletters but we need your help! Each week we would like to give a special "shoutout" to a GRES teacher. Students or parents can nominate a teacher to be included in our "Teacher Feature" section of the weekly newsletter by sharing a reason(s) why they make school a wonderful place to be! Your input can be shared by completing the digital submission form or you can print our paper copy and have your child turn it into the office at school. Thank you for your support, we are looking forward to sharing your responses!

As we continue to look to the next school year, it is a good idea to have your student work on independent skills either during the live instruction or the asynchronous activities (or both). We have noticed that some of the students returning from remote instruction are struggling to work without someone by their side. If you need to, get them started on an activity, walk away and start some laundry, do some dishes, or catch up on a good book! :) Start small: set a timer and check back in on them, but give them the independence they need to feel successful.

Families of 3rd through 6th grade e-learning students are being asked to bring their child to the building to complete the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. I want to stress the importance of student participation as a lack of participation could have a negative impact on our overall community. Non-participation counts as a student not meeting, which will impact our growth and proficiency scores negatively. In addition, it could affect our overall success rating and at times, property values are attached to school/district ratings. If there is an environment that we could accommodate so that we could test your child, please share that with us.
Please remind your child(ren) to return all library books by May 11th!!
