Jog-a-thon
What a perfect day to do the Jog-a-thon! The weather held out and only rained a little bit on 4th and 5th grade this afternoon. We were then rewarded with a rainbow at the end of the day. The students did their best and we had several parent helpers out cheering them on. We had many personal bests set this year. We also had a new student record set by 8th grader, Kai Rathjen, who ran 35 laps in an hour! That's one lap shy of eight miles! The previous record of 33 laps had stood for the last four years.
Thank you to everyone who turned in pledge sheets today. I will be getting them back to students by Tuesday, October 26. If you haven't turned in yours yet, there is still time. We'll take pledges and pledge money whenever it comes in!
Thank you for supporting our school.
~Ms. Cori

Stewardship Day
The middle school classes are hosting a Stewardship Day on November 6. They will be working on some projects that will benefit their area of the school. All families are welcome to join, but we are putting out a specific ask for middle school families to come join in. Some of the projects include putting up a second tent for shade/rain cover, painting the sheds, beautifying the temporary fence, and laying down more wood chips by the yurts. More details will be in next week's update.

Sickness and School
As cold and flu season approaches many questions have come up about when to keep children at home. With COVID-19 on the forefront of our minds, it's important to remember that regular colds will occur throughout the season as well. Even though there's a different approach to dealing with the two, ultimately, if your child is displaying symptoms of being sick-- keep them home!
As a reminder the primary symptoms of COVID-19 are:
- Cough
- Temperature of 100.4 degrees F or higher
- Chills
- Shortness of breath
- Difficulty breathing
- New loss of taste or smell
Non-primary COVID-19 symptoms:
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Nasal congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
From the Oregon Health Authority:
"People with COVID-19 can have a wide range of symptoms, ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2–14 days after exposure to the virus. The “primary” COVID-19 symptoms require exclusion from school. The “non-primary” COVID-19 symptoms can be seen with many other illnesses, in addition to COVID-19. The non-primary symptoms do not always require exclusion. When feasible, ill students and staff with any primary COVID-19 symptoms should be encouraged to seek viral testing. If a student has non-primary symptoms that persist for more than one day, the parent should consider evaluation by the child’s healthcare provider who can determine if viral testing is advised."
With a regular cold, a student will need to be symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school. In a positive case of COVID-19, a student will need to stay home for 10 days, regardless of if symptoms last less than that time. All unvaccinated family members will need to stay home for 14 days as well. We encourage people to get tested if they suspect COVID-19 and let the school know if there is a positive case so we can initiate potential quarantine procedures if necessary. The school will personally contact families if their child was considered a close contact by a positive case at school. Students returning to school before their isolation period is up or not getting tested for fear of needing to isolate for 10 days do not help curb the spread of COVID-19. We are asking parents/guardians to do their part to keep our school community healthy.

Fundraisers to Support 8th grade
The 8th grade class is hosting a fundraiser selling Holiday flower bulbs. Please click on the link below to go to the website to purchase them. They will be shipped directly to you. The sale goes until December 3.
The 8th grade class is also starting to collect cans and bottles. The drop off area is by the first shed between the first two yurts as you drive around the track. Feel free to drop them off at drop off or pick up time. There is enough space to pull over to not block the track.
Thanks for your support!

Halloween-- NEXT WEEK
We will be celebrating Halloween at school on Thursday, October 28 (Friday, October 29 is a Grades Day so there is no school.) At Madrone Trail this means we will have a parade of costumes after lunch and then individual class celebrations afterwards. Please do not send your child in their costume to school, or apply elaborate makeup they will have to wear all day as it is very distracting for the first part of the day.
As you look to purchase or make your child's Halloween costume this year please observe our school guidelines surrounding the Halloween costumes that they wear at school. If students would like to dress up in something that is outside these guidelines, we encourage them to do that on Halloween instead of at school.
- Bring your costume to change into before parade. Parade will be at 1:30 pm.
- Homemade costumes are encouraged.
- Costumes must follow the school dress code.
- Keep face paint, make-up, and hair simple (you’re going to be applying it all at school.)
- You must be able to sit, walk, hear, and see and be seen with your costume on (no full face masks)
- No costumes that are gory/scary.
- No prop weapons.

Easy Ways to Support Madrone Trail
If you shop at Amazon and/or Fred Meyer there is an easy way to earn money for our school! Both options only need to be set up once, then you are good to go!
For Amazon: The Amazon Smile program donates 0.5% of eligible purchases to organizations. Go to smile.amazon.com and choose Madrone Trail Initiative as your charity of choice. Every time you shop 0.5% of eligible purchases will go to our school. You can now use Amazon Smile on the Amazon App. Open the app and click on the 3 bars. Scroll down to Programs & Features, click on see all. Scroll down until you find Amazon Smile. If you have already set it up through the website, follow the directions to activate it. If you haven't picked a charity of choice, follow directions to select Madrone Trail Initiative as yours.
For Fred Meyer: The Fred Meyer Community Rewards program donates to local schools, community organizations, and non-profits. Go to their website and click on the link to "Link your Rewards Card now." You will need to create a log-in if you don't have one already, or sign-in if you do. Search for Madrone Trail Public Charter School, and select us as your charity of choice. Every time you use your Fred Meyer Reward Card it will donate a small portion to our school. Last quarter our school earned $31.60 from 16 families, the more families we can get to do this the better!
Thanks for your support!
