Dear Westlake Academy Family:
We have great news to share! Westlake Academy ranked 42nd in the US and 19th in Texas according to the Jay Mathews Challenge Index, the oldest high school ranking system in the country since 1998. Simply put, Westlake Academy is in the top 1% of America’s 22,000 high schools. Now that’s something to celebrate!
You may be wondering how this works? This process is the only one of its kind - it doesn’t rely on test scores and it compares public and private schools together. It ranks on a simple ratio: the number of AP, IB or Cambridge tests given each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that same year. This ranking is used by US News and World Report and the Washington Post.
Participation and testing in college level AP and IB courses provides a unique measure of the depth of learning. The exams are written and graded by professionals outside of the high school community and it has been shown that success on these exams is directly tied to success in college.
