From the Director of Music: And Now for Something Completely Different 2.0

Thank you to all of you who attended our second recital of the summer series on July 24. What a great audience! A special thank you to Amy Pauw for her beautiful playing, to Doug Yeager for recording the recital, and to Peggy for hosting.

Our third and final program for the summer will take place this Sunday at 2:00 pm and will feature a selection of favorite hymns played in piano four-hand arrangements. Frank Kirk, Jr., and I will be making our debut as duo pianists! Selections will include such favorites as "Lord of the Dance," "Down to the River to Pray," "Here I Am, Lord," "Amazing Grace," How Great Thou Art," and eight other pieces. We hope that you will enjoy this group of favorite hymns.

The forty-minute program will be followed by a refreshments and fellowship.

As always, I thank you for your support of our Music Ministry, and I look forward to seeing each of you at Sunday’s recital.

The Hope Village Needs:

Committee Meetings August 10

"You can be “in the room where it happens”

Presbyterians are known for doing things “decently and in order”—and that means committees! Much of our mission and ministry at Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church starts with the work of these four committees:

Worship (Sunday morning worship, music, special services)

Stewardship (budget, building and grounds)

Nurture (Christian education, spiritual growth, community-building)

Outreach (our witness in the community, nation, world)

These committees usually meet on the second Wednesday of each month, at 6:45 p.m., on Zoom. We meet together for the first 15 minutes to share calendar items and prayer concerns, then break into committees. Anyone is welcome to join us and share your ideas for our life together.

Cedar Ridge Camp Worship and Picnic is Back!!!!!

August 14

Another CHPC tradition will be renewed August 14, when our community gathers at Cedar Ridge Camp for worship and a picnic. Peggy Hinds will be preaching. Worship begins at 11:00 a.m. at the lakeside pavilion, with the picnic to follow. The pavilion is easily accessible for those with limited mobility. There will be no worship service at the church and no Zoom option available August 14.

Ben Langley and Jerry Van Marter will be tending the grill, as always. The rest of the meal will be potluck. The pool will be open for swimming from 1 - 3 pm.

So bring your lawn chairs, sunscreen and a dish to share to Cedar Ridge Camp on August 14. For further information, contact Jerry Van Marter (Worship Committee) or Soni Castleberry (Nurture Committee). See you at Cedar Ridge Camp on August 14!!!!!

Can We Talk?

Tools for Conversations about Racial Justice,

a 2-part virtual workshop with Cory Lockhart, activist, artist, teacher

Tuesday, August 23 and 30

12 - 2 p.m.

Do you wish you felt more skillful when talking about racial justice? Do you either avoid the difficult conversations or get into them, only to find yourself frustrated, dismayed, tongue-tied, or uncertain? How do we help create space so that both parties have a chance to speak honestly and be heard? How do we move from “us” and “them” to a greater sense of shared vision? How do we express ourselves in a way that is authentic, clear, and grounded?
