FILL OUT YOUR ANNUAL CENSUS FORM!
Residents will receive the 2021 Annual Town Census in the mail soon. The census is a valuable tool as it provides statistical information that benefits federal and state funding to the town and also verifies your proof of residence, protects your voting rights, aids in veteran’s bonuses, and housing for the elderly and other related benefits. Follow the Census instructions and please sign and respond within ten (10) days, even if no changes are necessary.
STAY INVOLVED IN YOUR LOCAL ELECTION!
On April 27, 2021, the Town of Swampscott will hold local elections for positions including Select Board, Board of Health, School Committee, Planning Board, Town Meeting, and more. Interested in running? The last day to obtain nomination papers is Friday, March 5th and they must be returned by Tuesday, March 9.
COVID-19 UPDATE
Cases of COVID continue to rise in Swampscott – the Town has recorded 948 cases since the pandemic was first declared almost one year ago. Please continue to be vigilant and practice all social distancing protocols and wear masks even if you’ve received the vaccine.

The State will no longer provide vaccines to individual towns, but Swampscott continues to work with our regional partners to determine a vaccination plan. In the meantime, visit https://vaxfinder.mass.gov/ to find a vaccination location near you.
IMPORTANT TIPS ABOUT COYOTES
It's not uncommon during this time of year to accidentally run into a coyote. If you find yourself face-to-face with one, Swampscott Animal Control Officer Dan Proulx has several important tips:

  • If you face a coyote, make eye contact, wave your arms, and yell. Do not run away.
  • If the coyote does not run away, continue to be assertive and back away from it and move on. Do not turn your back to it.
  • Avoid early morning and late night walks in areas prone to coyotes.
  • Please remember to keep cats indoor and do not let your dog roam freely.
  • If you frequent areas that are prone to coyotes, the Police Department is distributing Wildlife Whistles which can be used to scare coyotes if you come across them.
Stop by the Police Station to pick up your wildlife whistle.

Thursday, March 11 - 6:30 PM.
University of New Hampshire Professor Jason Sokol will discuss the modern history of race and politics in the Northeast. Why did white fans come out to support Jackie Robinson as he broke baseball’s color barrier in 1948 even as Brooklyn’s blacks were shunted into segregated neighborhoods? How was African-American politician Ed Brooke of Massachusetts, who won a Senate seat in 1966, undone by the resistance to desegregation busing in Boston? Is the Northeast’s history a microcosm of America as a whole: outwardly democratic, but inwardly conflicted over race? REGISTER HERE or call 781-596-8867.
