If you have someone you would like to have on the parish prayer list, or if there is someone on the current prayer list that you would like to have continue being on the list, please email the church office with 'Prayer List' in the subject. Just a first name is fine and if you wish to share a short intention of the prayer, that may be helpful.

You can also call the church office at (808) 482-4824 and leave a message.

Thanks,

Suzanne

Untethered Thoughts

Everyday champions galore is the best way to describe what has happened in our Kilauea to Haena neighborhood this past week.

The Hanalei landslide on March 11 was the focus; the emergence of volunteers is the take away. Credit Joel Guy with Hanalei Initiative and an amazing reach out. Hard to imagine that in three days a boat transfer across the river to ATVs to a van to Makai and back was operative. Thank you Hanalei Bay Rotary.

The club also got $1600 in contributions at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday. This generosity paralleled selfless efforts by many other champions: gas cans delivered; food picked up; lifts to the doctor; and school kids transported.

Most humbling was the appreciation expressed by those needing to leave, or get to, Hanalei. Weariness at first sight, followed by smiling thank you’s.

Does anyone not doubt that champions capture and elevate hopes for a better tomorrow? Biblical passages consistently urge us to be non assuming champions in our own ways when opportunity comes.

HOLY WEEK
Resurrection

What does resurrection mean to you? I have been been thinking a lot about it recently. Covid has changed all of our lives. It has given me pause to reflect on how much we all depend on each other. To me resurrection means a new beginning and brings with it hope for a better tomorrow.

Our church is small but we have a unique opportunity to serve our community and our island thru our Helen Mitsui Shared Blessings Thrift Shop. Except for the transfer station we are the largest recycling operation on the Northshore. We are doing our part to keep things out of our landfill. Our amazing employees and volunteers keep our store stocked with merchandise at a very low price. Anything we don’t need, we pass on to other charities like the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, books for elementary school libraries, school supplies for teachers, clothing to the Philippines, shoes for incarcerated individuals, just to name a few. We also give money for feeding programs and other areas of need on our island.

This year our goal is to formalize our outreach program so that we can be more efficient and effective. If you have a calling for this mission please let me know. We need advice, steering committee members, money and prayers. If you wish to work on this with me please respond to this email and I will contact you.

If you wish to donate please refer to the 'GIVE' section below or send your donaion to Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 293, Kilauea, HI 9675. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

I love the Matthew 25: 40 verse which says: “The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” We have a great opportunity to love our neighbors thru our actions. I hope you will join me as we move into this new year of possibilities.

Easter Blessings,

CONNECT
Helen Mitsui Shared Blessings Thrift Shop in Kilauea is seeking Volunteers for 2021.

Each volunteer shift is a 2-4 hour commitment for a minimum of one day per week. Experience in Retail, Customer Service, and/or Retail a plus, but not required.

Volunteers are invaluable to serving our community. Our goal is to reuse, repurpose and recycle goods — keeping as much as possible out of landfill — while providing our community with access to reasonably priced, quality merchandise.

Here are ways you can help:
* Greeters welcome shoppers and monitor our COVID guidelines.
* Customer Care helps shoppers to ensure a pleasant shopping experience.
* Merchandisers organize departments, restock the floor and display retail goods.
* Philanthropy distributes merchandise to organizations in need.
* Donation Intakers receive, sort and process donations.

Work-from-Home volunteers help prepare merchandise for sale. We are especially looking for help in these areas:
* Games: checking games to ensure all components are intact
* Stationery: packaging up cards and envelopes
* Holidays: preparing merchandise for Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Valentines, 4th of July, and more
* School, Office, Art Craft Supplies: organizing and packaging materials for reuse
* Toys: sorting, cleaning, and packaging toys
* Hardware: sorting and packaging tools, materials, electronics and appliances

Requirements?
*Team players with a genuine interest in serving the community and contributing to the reuse movement.
* Willingness to support COVID-19 safety measures set by Shared Blessings
* Physically able to lift 50 pounds (Merchandisers and Donation Intakers only)

Benefits?
Serving the community and our environment is rewarding work. We have a lot of fun! New merchandise is donated daily, so the element of surprise and wonder is constant. Get a first peek and more!

GIVE
Our giving is important, especially now.

Although we aren’t gathering in the sanctuary for worship, our church bills are still the same. We’ve had questions from our Sunday worshippers and now our Zoom worshippers about how to give. Your continued gifts really matter, especially in this time of uncertainty.
If you like to give by check, please send to:
Christ Memorial Episcopal Church,
P.O. Box 293, Kilauea, HI 96754
