Sanctity of Human Life Sunday
January 22, 2023
Below is the link for: A Guide for Pastors on Making the Most of Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. This guide provides helpful information as you prepare for this important event. Dr. Greg Austen, CARE NET'S Executive Director of Church Outreach and Engagement writes: "January 22, 2023 is National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. Although not all churches are aware of the history of this event, it offers a great opportunity for churches to begin the year championing the Imago Dei; that is, the theological truth that all human life—from conception to natural death—is special, sacred, and created in the image of God..."

Respect for Marriage Act and Churches | On November 29, the Senate passed it by a 61–36 vote, on December 8, the House agreed to the Senate amendment by a 258–169 vote, and on December 13, 2022, President Biden signed the bill into law. According to Church Law and Tax, there were bipartisan amendments to this law that confirms that churches will not be required to provide any services, facilities, or goods for the solemnization or celebration of a marriage and protects all religious liberty and conscience protections available under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) and prevents the Act from being used to diminish or repeal any such protection.
Something New in Canoga Park
Pastor Tim Pickard and Pastor Jason Matossian have been talking for a while about bringing their churches together. Jason is familiar with PCN and knew Tim from mutual meetings. Jason's church was renting another church and the idea of merging came up. Pastor Jason will serve as the lead pastor. Pastor Tim wrote, "On Sunday, December 11th, First Baptist Church of Canoga Park and Mount Ararat Bible Church voted to become one church. We believe we will be better equipped to reflect Christ, function as a healthy church, and pursue the great commission together than we would have been apart. We're grateful for how God has brought us together and we're eager to see how he uses 'The Mount Bible Church' in the coming years. Please pray for us as we walk through the transition and begin to function as one church." We are excited for them and pray for God's blessing.
The first Sunday officially will be January 15th.

New President for Missions Door
Missions Door has been blessed by the incredible leadership of Rick Miller for the last 27.5 years. With his desire to step down, Missions Door conducted a search for the next President of Missions Door (formerly known as the Conservative Baptist Home Mission Society), a partner of PCN. On Wednesday, November 30, the Missions Door Board unanimously selected Dr. Derek Webster (pictured) to serve as the next President, effective as of January 1, 2023. Derek is married to Melissa, and they have three sons. He has served as youth pastor, worship pastor, Mega church lead pastor, as well as missionary, church planter, and consultant with IMB in Europe.
