"Arts Education Month"
Superintendent's Message

Dear FJUHSD Community,

Welcome to the month of March! This month we are celebrating Arts Education Month.  Yes, an entire month dedicated to highlighting the importance of dance, media arts, music, theater, and visual arts education for all students. It is exciting to see the return of in-person performances and events at the school sites. I invite you to check out the many activities that are happening at each campus, including drama and musical productions, choir and band concerts, art shows, and dance festivals. Please check our school site calendars for specific dates and times.  Our students are doing amazing things and they look forward to celebrating their talents and accomplishments with all of you.

Another event we are excited about is the return of recognitions and commendations at Board Meetings. While COVID impacted this public celebration of accomplishments in the past, we are excited to again have the opportunity to recognize students and programs at Board meetings.  At the March 8th Board Meeting we will recognize District Agriculture Programs and Fall athletic teams that competed in CIF playoffs. We look forward to celebrating the many achievements and accomplishments by students and staff members at upcoming meetings.
The Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, is quoted as saying "change is the only constant in life." This sentiment can certainly describe the current COVID situation. Thankfully, it appears we are moving toward an endemic phase of the pandemic. Thank you for reading the many updates that the District has sent out. If you have missed any of the updates, you will find them on the District website at the following link:  Updates from the Superintendent.

COVID has presented many challenges. Our students, parents, staff members, and community members have done an excellent job in adapting to the shifting environment. As we continue to move forward toward “getting back to normal” I would like to thank you for your continued support and encouragement.

Please check out the campus activities and enjoy the beginning of Spring!

FJUHSD Receives Donation

The Highlander Band Parents Association from Highlander High School in Pacoima, California donated a trailer to Buena Park High School's band program. The band members are very appreciative of this very generous donation.
Shout out to the Education Center Classified Employee of the Year!
Congratulations to Emma Esparza, Classified Payroll Technician for being selected as the Education Center Classified Employee of the Year. We appreciate all your hard work and dedication to our district.
Celebrating Visual and Performing Arts!!!
The District Art Show was held at the Muckenthaler, featuring 20 pieces of art from each school site. The show was on view from January 27, 2022 - February 13, 2022. This show demonstrated the unique and creative voices of District students, and the culture of support from our community of teachers, administration, parents, and city. Moreover, the show provides students and their families with an evening to celebrate their successes, and reminds our teachers that their time, energy, and talents are well spent. The District VAPA website has been created in order to archive the beauty of the past artists’ works. Click the link below to view the website. Other District VAPA subject areas are looking to expand this process. As an example, Dance will be holding their district show on March 4, 2022 at Sunny Hills. Each site has been incredibly busy with theatrical productions, choral and instrumental concerts, art shows, Comedy Sports, and more! All sites have worked to provide each student with a Visual and Performing Arts experience that will help them transition into their academic and/or career endeavors.
Congratulations to Jacquie Morck - 2022 OC School Counselor of the Year Award Recipient
Excellence Among Us
The Fullerton Joint Union High School District is fortunate to be served by many outstanding classified, certificated, supervisory, confidential, management and administrative staff members. Each month, Human Resources has the honor of showcasing a staff member or members who contribute to the support, development and success of our students and who help to make this District exceptional.

This month, Human Resources is proud to recognize Fullerton Union High School (FUHS) Art Teacher and District Visual and Performing Arts Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA), Maggie Crail.

The Visual and Performing Arts are an important part of the academic and personal lives of many of our District’s students. Through the Arts, the District's many talented Visual and Performing Arts teachers are able to support and promote the creative talents of their students and afford them the opportunity to express themselves in ways that other subjects can not.

Maggie, in addition to supporting the artistic and academic needs of her Photography and Advanced Placement Art students at FUHS, capably serves as the District Visual and Performing Arts Teacher On Special Assignment (VAPA TOSA), providing support to the Art teachers throughout the District. As the VAPA TOSA, Maggie meets with the District’s Principals, Assistant Principals of Instruction and Operations and the VAPA department leaders from each District school site in order to support and facilitate the vision and mission of each school's VAPA program. Maggie has partnered with the California Arts Project to begin the process of training our Arts teachers in the new Arts Standards and to create scope and sequencing on our campuses. Maggie has also been the key liaison between the District and the Muckenthaler Cultural Center, in support of the annual District Art Show. In short, Mrs. Crail is an outstanding mentor and cheerleader of the Arts at FUHS and the District as a whole.

Thank you Mrs. Crail for your exceptional service to our staff, students, parents, community and District! You truly represent the excellence among us.
The District is currently recruiting individuals to join our team in a variety of positions. Those interested should visit Edjoin for details.
