Meet the newest member of the AVNC Board
We are thrilled to announce that Brett Kushner has joined the AVNC Board! As chair of our Outreach Committee, he's already been responsible for a lot behind the scenes! Brett is brilliant, kind and committed to Atwater Village. We got a good one!
Recent Board Letter to City of LA Leaders
We are speaking out to support the Healthy Streets LA Ballot Initiative. If we're already repaving a street, we'd like to see the other planned improvements done at the same time, to support all kinds of commuters.

AVNC Opposes Proposed Changes
to Bicycle "Chop" Shops
Your Atwater Neighborhood Council opposes the City Council's plan to ban "the assembly, disassembly, sale, offer of sale, distribution of bicycles and bicycle parts on public property." Though the rhetoric for the ban is focused on stolen bicycles, it adds nothing the law doesn't already cover and puts legitimate vendors, cyclists and the unhoused at risk of criminalization.

The Nature
How would you like to see a greener, cleaner LA river? We would! The Nature Conservancy is leading a storm water diversion and habitat restoration project on the Bowtie called The Demonstration Project. The project aims to create vital habitats and demonstrate how storm water quality can be improved by natural systems.

A direct and compelling headline
AVNC Neighborhood Purpose Grants are bringing events and art installations to Atwater! Keep an eye out for more details about Stop the Clock climate change events on the Red Car Bridge in June.
Student Loan Pause Extended Through August
The U.S. Department of Education announced an extension of the pause on student loan repayment, interest, and collections through August 31, 2022.

The extension will provide additional time for borrowers to plan for the resumption of payments, reducing the risk of delinquency and defaults after restart.

LA Animal Services Offers Free Microchips
For Pets While Supplies Last
Thanks to a generous grant from California Animal Welfare Funders Collaborative, LA Animal Services is offering free microchips for pets while supplies last!

What is Microchipping?

A microchip, the size of a grain of rice, is injected under the animal’s skin between the shoulder blades. Each microchip has a unique number that is registered with a nationwide database along with the pet owner’s address and phone number. If your pet becomes lost, the microchip can be read by scanners that are used by most animal centers and veterinary clinics. Microchips reunite countless pets each year, and can make all the difference in finding your pet if they are lost, or even stolen.

How to Receive a Microchip from LA Animal Services

If your pet is not microchipped, you may contact any of our LA Animal Services Centers and schedule an appointment at 888-452-7381, or you may book an appointment online by clicking here.
