PRIORITY REGISTRATION FOR LAGUNA FAMILIES: TUES 4/6 AT NOON

Welcome to Summer @ Laguna, where learning and fun collide. Summer 2021 features eight weeks of Laguna's favorite summer camps, such as Arts @ Laguna—plus over 30 new, unique camp offerings, which come in all different shapes and sizes to satisfy a wide range of ages and interests.

The majority of our camps take place on Laguna Blanca's Hope Ranch campus, with 35 acres of fresh air and green space for campers to run, explore, learn, and grow. Our hallmark Lower School camp, Camp Cito (formerly known as Summer @ Laguna), is housed on our charming 2-acre Montecito campus. Laguna faculty and other talented local educators serve as our camp staff, along with a dedicated and caring team of counselors and CITs.

At Summer @ Laguna, we pride ourselves on taking excellent care of our campers. In addition to all the activities and adventures of the day, every camp includes daily healthy snacks and lunch, as well as integrated physical education. Campers come home happy, tired, well-fed, and eager for the next day of camp!

Summer @ Laguna camps run in accordance with CDC and SB County COVID safety protocols. Laguna Blanca successfully and safely ran summer camps in 2020 and has been holding in-person instruction for the entire 2020-21 school year.

All camps run from 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM DAILY with morning and afternoon care available. Click on the link below to learn more about each exciting camp!

THIRD GRADERS TAKE ON FAMOUS CHARACTERS IN GREATEST AMERICANS OF THE 20TH CENTURY PLAY
Kanu '30 as Teddy Roosevelt
Caroline '30 as Wilbur Wright
Last week, Laguna third graders presented the musical play, the Greatest Americans of the 20th Century! Under the direction of Third Grade Teacher Brooke Green, the students embodied some of the most influential characters of the last century, including Walt Disney, Albert Einstein, and Martha Graham. As part of a larger interdisciplinary unit, the lively outdoor production brought to light the inspiring contributions of famous civil right activists, writers, artists, scientists, athletes, politicians, and inventors.

Way to go, third grade!
NINTH GRADERS EXPLORE DOWNTOWN SANTA BARBARA AS PART OF COLLABORATIVE URBAN STUDIES UNIT
On Tuesday, March 16, ninth graders began their Urban Studies journey with a place-based experience in our own backyard. A collaborative ethnography walk in downtown Santa Barbara kicked off the Biology/English/Civic interdisciplinary unit and allowed students to explore our local, complex, and ever-changing city within a relatively small, vibrant space that is in a state of flux.

As added bonuses, this educational outing coincided with the downtown Santa Barbara Farmer's Market, and the students had the opportunity to meet with Laguna Art Teacher Dug Uyesaka in his downtown art studio.

This unit is a collaboration of Experiential Learning and English with Ashley Tidey, Biology with Amanda Whalen, and Social Science with Kevin Guay and offers an introduction to collaborative ethnography, which is observing people, cultures, and places, and interacting with people you don’t know—and then writing about it.

"The 'all-in' engagement in our classes is inspiring, and is allowing us to grow together, as the students themselves helped us create this “reimagined DTLA” trip in our very own city," says Experiential Learning Coordinator & English Instructor Ashley Tidey.

THIS WEEK'S GRATITUDE GRAM
This week's Gratitude Gram is dedicated to our Assistant to the Head of School Jessica Tyler! Jessica's strong sense of loyalty to Mr. Hereford; her unparalleled attention to detail; and her ability to balance multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines is not lost on us.

As the board liaison, Jessica provides administrative organization for Laguna's Board of Trustees and manages the high volume of special projects and needs. Jessica goes above and beyond for the faculty and staff at Laguna, all while ensuring that no organizational or festive detail goes unnoticed.

In addition, Jessica puts her law degree to good use at Laguna by successfully leading our Mock Trial Team and inspiring students to appreciate and understand our legal system. We are so grateful for all of her hard work and the talent she brings to Laguna!

Read a few words from her colleagues below:

"Jessica Tyler works hard to coordinate food drop-offs and pick-ups, adds holiday cheer to offices and the faculty rooms, has incredible organization with schedules and calendars, and manages communications for the school and the board. We appreciate you so much, Jessica!"

"Jessica Tyler, your continuous effort to make us feel special is so appreciated!"

"I'm so thankful for Jessica's friendship! She is thoughtful, loyal, and honest. We are lucky to have her at Laguna!"
