The Great Outdoors
All summer long 

The Library has a great line-up of outdoor programs at beaches, parks, wildlife refuges, and even on the Mastic Recreation Center lawn! Check the program calendar for a full list of events.

Family Roller Skating Night @ GR8TSKATES
Thursday, 8/11, 5:30 - 8:00 PM

Join your friends and neighbors at the brand new Gr8skates Roller Rink right across the street! Register each family member for free admission and skate rental. (Only those registered will be able to enter the building). Concessions and arcade games are available for purchase. PVC skate trainers are $5.00 each and while supplies last. Please note: All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Families with at least one child entering grade 7 and younger. Must arrive by 6 PM or your reservation will be forfeited. Register each person separately with their own library card. All skaters must sign a waiver at arrival. Helmets for young children are optional and are not provided. The smallest skate size available is a youth 10 boys. No roller blades are allowed at Gr8skates. Register each person separately.

PASTA Picnic @ Suffolk County Farm

Pack a lunch and wear comfortable clothing! We're going on a hayride, feeding animals, doing a craft, having lunch, and receiving a free book. Prepare to have fun! Meet us at Suffolk County Farm, 350 Yaphank Road, Yaphank. This program is specifically for grandparents raising their grandchildren. 

SWITCH Summer Sports @ Mastic Rec

Stay cool while you play Switch Sports with us at the Mastic Rec Center. Tennis, Volleyball, Bowling, and more! Get prizes for winning and showing off your skills! Entering Grades 4-7

Parachute Play @ Mastic Rec
Join us for outdoor parachute fun! Weather permitting. Children 2-5 years with an adult.

Meet the Animals @ Quogue Wildlife Refuge
 
Come meet the animals of the Quogue Wildlife Refuge! A variety of animals, including snakes, turtles, birds, and insects, will be presented in the Nature Center. Participants will get a chance to meet these creatures up close and learn all about their personal histories and adaptations. Families with at least one child age 4 and up. Will meet at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge – 3 Old Country Road, Quogue, NY 11959. 

Stellaluna Storytime and Craft @ Wertheim Visitor Center

Enjoy listening to the story Stellaluna and then complete a fun bat craft! Entering Grades K-3 with an adult.

3-D Printing Workshop
Monday, 8/8, 4:00 - 5:00 PM
 
Hang out with Mr. Keith and Ms. Sam to learn the basics of 3D modeling with Tinkercad. This is a drop-in program. 15 Herkimer St, Mastic.
Crafternoon @ Mastic Rec Center 
Tuesday, 8/9, 4:30 - 5:30 pm 

Drop in for various “Get Crafty” and “Pamper Yourself” crafts each week! 15 Herkimer St, Mastic. No registration required.

 
Rainbow Soup @ Mastic Rec Center

This is a drop-in program.

Create a summery sunflower wreath with craft instructor Laurie. Please bring a pair of sharp scissors to class. Materials fee: $10.00 (non-refundable). 
Learn the Art of Quilting
 
Explore the world of quilting!  All levels of experience are welcome to join the group. Instructors Gloria and Sandra can assist you with an existing project or get you started on a new one! This program will take place at the Mastic Recreation Center on Herkimer St. in Mastic.

Hidden Cemeteries of Brookhaven: Carmen Miller Cemetery

Join local history librarian Brad Shupe on a visit to the Carman Miller Cemetery in Southaven. The site is located at the Robinson Duck Farm Dog Park on Montauk Highway, just west of the Carmans River.. Mr. Shupe will provide a history of the area and the family. For more information or directions to the site email Brad Shupe at bshupe@communitylibrary.org

Parents and Caregivers
This is a six-session program: Tuesdays - August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and September 6.
Learn how to set healthy boundaries, discipline without punishment, and treat your children with respect so that they will respect you. Sessions are designed for both mandated (certificate included) and nonmandated parents. You must provide an email so the Zoom link can be emailed to you.
