Humble service
Happy Memorial Day everybody! As you take time to honor and pray for the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties while serving in the United States Armed Forces, may you have a restful and peaceful day. I sincerely hope it is a restful day, because festival is coming in a few days! Saint Medard, pray for us. Thanks again for all your help with our parish festival. I sure hope it is a success.
Speaking of help, on behalf of the ushers, thank you for your cooperation at Mass. Our ushers sincerely appreciate your compliance following all the restrictions. You made their ministry so much easier during this difficult time. Again, they appreciate it. The parish staff and I are grateful for our ushers. They did a super job this past year! And you did a super job, too! Thank you!
Today is also the Feast of the Visitation, and we commemorate this Joyful Mystery. When we read about Mary in the Scriptures, her humility is apparent. She was humble enough to consent to the message of the angel, “I am the handmaid of the Lord” (Luke 1:38). With the Visitation, The Blessed Virgin Mary was humble enough to make haste to assist her cousin, Saint Elizabeth. This is pretty remarkable. Mary had just conceived the Son of the Most High in her womb, and that did not keep her from seeing the needs of those around her. Her charity was concrete and immediate. Her rapid response was the fruit of her humility. Our Mother’s focus was not on herself, and the Blessed Virgin maintained this attitude of humble service throughout her life. May we do our best to maintain this attitude of humble service throughout our lives!
Speaking of service, please offer a prayer for Fr. Damian today. Today at 11AM, Fr. Damian is making his doctoral defense. I know he is going to do a tremendous job, but I am sure he would appreciate a prayer or two. God bless Fr. Damian!
