DNA and Genealogy with Lara Diamond

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Pittsburgh and the Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives welcome noted genealogist Lara Diamond, who will discuss the complications of genetic genealogy within endogamous populations.

Diamond is president of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Maryland, leads JewishGen's Subcarpathian SIG and sits on JewishGen's Ukraine SIG's board of directors. She also runs multiple district-and town-focused projects to collect documentation to assist all those researching ancestors from common towns.

This program is free and open to the public but does not include museum admission. Please register online.

The program will begin at 11 a.m. with a brief Q&A session with the Jewish Genealogy Society about general research questions. Lara Diamond's presentation will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Virtual Senior Academy: Solving a Mystery!

The Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives is offering an online course through the Virtual Senior Academy, a learning center for senior citizens in the Pittsburgh area.

"Solving a Mystery!" will use an advertisement for Jacob A. Cohen - a merchant from the tiny town of Sandy Creek, Pa. - to show how archivists provide context for interesting and beautiful objects from the past.

Memorial Day Program at Homewood Cemetery

As part of the annual Memorial Day program at The Homewood Cemetery, Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives Director Eric Lidji will share the last letters written by four Jewish soldiers from Pittsburgh who were killed while serving in the American military during World War II.

Bet Tikvah Congregation 30th Anniversary Celebration & Reunion

Bet Tikvah Congregation is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its 1988 founding with a reunion at the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill.

World Congress of GLBT Synagogues President Frank Gaioui will be in attendance, and Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives Director Eric Lidji will give a talk about the history of Bet Tikvah that features oral histories about the founding of the congregation.
 
 

Curtain Call! The Jewish Stars of the Pittsburgh Playhouse

Before the Pittsburgh Playhouse officially "turns off the lights" at its Oakland campus and prepares to open its new theater complex downtown, join the Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives in a celebration of the many Jewish actors, writers, directors, stagehands, patrons, and critics who have made the Pittsburgh Playhouse an iconic part of the cultural landscape of Pittsburgh for more than 80 years.

This program will feature classic photographs and behind the scenes materials from Nat Elbaum, Helen Wayne Rauh, Allen Pinsker, and many more.
