Prom 2022: Important Information

The spring season is in full swing and we are looking forward to Prom tomorrow! As you may recognize, the excitement of Prom season in many communities is coupled with adults seeking opportunities to counsel our young adults to make healthy and safe decisions as they enjoy the fun surrounding this wonderful event. We have received some requests to depart campus after Prom, however, we strongly encourage students to stay on campus. We have created an event that includes transportation and supervision.

If your child is choosing to depart campus after Prom this year, or at any time leading up to Commencement, we ask for your support in two key ways:

  1. Please ensure that all Leave Requests are submitted in advance and that these requests reflect accurate plans confirmed by all relevant parties, including students, parents/guardians, and any hosts. In particular, please ensure that the Student Life Office has a clear understanding of how your child will travel to and from any Leave and that proper permissions are secured and communicated in REACH.
  2. Remind your student that by “reach of the school,” they are expected to uphold Community Standards, whether they are on campus or on a Leave, and are accountable for their choices. We want them to represent themselves and Tilton positively at all times and so we ask that you engage them in this conversation and encourage their pursuit of options that align with Tilton standards regardless of their location or Leave status. Remind them that risky decisions can impact not only them, their friends, and your family, but those who have agreed to host them as well.

If we can support you in any way as you engage in these conversations and make plans with your child, please do not hesitate to reach out. We appreciate these opportunities for partnership.

Grade-Level Change Requests
Situations may occasionally arise in which a student and their parents may request a change of grade-level placement, either to accelerate the date of graduation by moving ahead a grade level or to provide additional time at the school by repeating a grade. Changes in grade-level placement remain rare exceptions to this rule. Still, the careful consideration of changes in grade level placement is well aligned with the school’s underlying philosophy that every student learns in a unique way and pace.

To change grade level status, students and their families must submit a written request to Katherine McCandless ([email protected]). The written request for a change of grade-level placement should identify clearly the reasons for the request. A request for a change of grade-level placement for the following academic year must be initiated prior to May of the current school year.

The Dean of Teaching and Learning facilitates the processing of the request, identifying issues to be addressed, ensuring an appropriate program of studies within the new grade placement, ensuring the student’s age at graduation is appropriate, determining whether NEPSAC waivers may be required to allow continued participation in athletic competition during the senior year, and securing the support and approval of the College Counseling Office. The request is then reviewed by the Leadership Team, and the Dean of Teaching and Learning contacts the family to inform them of the decision as well as to initiate any new educational plan.

Grade Level Programming Dates
For your planning purposes, the final Saturday Grade Level Programming date has been changed to Thursday, May 19.

Weekend leave requests for boarding students are due on REACH by Thursdays at 12:00 p.m. Going forward, if a student misses the deadline to submit a leave, he or she will be required to remain on campus for the weekend. In a significant situation that requires a student to leave campus at a moment's notice, a parent or guardian should contact the AOD at 603-520-6400.
Business Office — School Store Purchases

Happy spring! We have had requests from students asking if they can charge school store purchases on their incidental account at FACTS. We would like to accommodate this, so for the remainder of this school year, we will allow students to charge items from the school store as long as a parent emails permission to the Business Office and the FACTS account must be current. If you have any questions, feel free to email [email protected].
