WORSHIP WITH US!
You are invited to worship with us on Sunday, July 24th!
This week is the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost!
Worship begins at 11:00am
in person and on Facebook Live!
Our elevator is currently out of order. If you rely on travel from the Brown Street entrance to the sanctuary, please know we have a chair lift available on Hendricks Street to take you up the stairs to the sanctuary.
Water, water everywhere! Summer evokes special memories of water - afternoons at the pool, splashing and floating in the cool, relaxing water on a hot day - trips to the local river, beach, or lake to seek relief and refreshment from the summer heat. The Bible shares so many stories of water as well - waters of creation, waters of baptism, living-water and more. Come to the Water this summer with First Presbyterian Church as we spend three weeks focusing in on some special stories about water from scripture. Join us as we gather to sing, play and wonder together. Come on in! The water is warm!
The church internet and phone lines are back up! Following an electrical outage last Wednesday evening, we have recovered normal phone and internet access. Thank you for your patience during this time.
Play Café

Play Café: A Modern Twist on Mother's Morning Out
is a new ministry at FPC that gives parents both a loving, safe place to take their child a couple of days a week, and a place to connect with other parents about the joys and stressors of parenthood.
For children ages 3 months through 18 months
Twice a week you'll bring your little one to FPC and drop them off in the Play Café playroom to have a time of caring enrichment with their peers in a space that encourages children to create, explore and make decisions. Once you drop them off, you are invited to join us down the hall for a "Morning Out Meetup" where we will provide an opportunity for you to enjoy some grown-ups-only time! Connect with other parents over a variety of activities that you'll help pick out, while taking time to grow and reconnect with yourself in a supportive environment. At the end of the Play Café day, you'll pickup your little one, prepared to return to the beautifully busy life of raising a child.
We are hiring a Lead Teacher for Play Café!
First Presbyterian Church is looking for compassionate, loving, self-motivated candidates for Lead Play Café Teacher at our church. We are hiring teachers for our Play Café ages 3 months to 18 months. This church offering is to provide a safe environment and positively impact the children of our community while maintaining our core Christian values. Play Café is a modern twist on Mother’s Morning Out. Play Café is a two day a week offering from 9:00am-1:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Lead Teacher position reports directly to the Pastoral Staff. Additional teachers shall report to the Lead Teacher.

DEADLINE TO ORDER TARTANS IS THIS SUNDAY!
Presbyterian Heritage Sunday Kirkin' o' the Tartan

On Sunday, September 25th, we will commemorate the rich history of the Presbyterian Church with origins deeply rooted in the Church of Scotland. Our worship service will open with a processional of bagpipes and field drum, combined with our beautiful pipe organ, to the magnificent tune "Highland Cathedral". As part of the service, we will present and bless the tartans.
Over the course of the next two months, you have the opportunity to purchase a tartan in your family name (ancient or modern). A member of your family will get to participate in the processional, carrying your family tartan, and will then be a part of the presentation and blessing, as well as the recessional at the conclusion of the service. Tartans can also be purchased for any branch of the military, as well as the United States Tartan. The St. Andrews Cross flag is also part of the service.

Please contact Alicia Taylor at alicia@fpccov.org or 770-656-6848 for pricing, questions, and to order a tartan. If you email, please provide the tartan family name, the name of the individual ordering the tartan, phone number, and email address, as well as whether you will be paying by cash or check. You can do a search for your family tartan HERE.

An Extra Connection to FPC Covington!
The Saint Andrews Society of Washington, D.C. held the first Kirkin' during the early years of World War II. Former pastor of FPC Covington, Dr. Peter Marshall, an eloquent Scot, and then Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, led the service in 1943, choosing "Kirkin' o' the Tartan" for the title of his sermon. His sermons were so popular that a request was made for their publication, with the proceeds designated for war relief programs. As the war continued, the D.C. Saint Andrews Society continued to hold prayer services for the British subjects. These became known as Kirkin's.
Upcoming Sermon Series!
We want to hear from YOU!
Our fall sermon series (starting September 4th) will be a "People's Potluck of Ideas!" Neeley and Erin invite you to consider what YOU would like to hear US discuss in a sermon. We will only be able to cover a few in the three weeks of this series, but we'd love to hear all of your ideas! What is a faith topic you'd like to learn more about? What Bible story might you want highlighted? What do you want to hear us preach on? We invite you to send us your ideas and faith questions as we prepare for this upcoming sermon series!
Please email Neeley
by August 1 at
or by clicking the button above.
The Session has called a Congregational Meeting to be held at the conclusion of the worship service on Sunday, August 7th, for the purpose of receiving a report from the Nominating Committee regarding candidates being called to serve as Elders and Deacons here at FPC Covington. All members are asked to stay, hear their report, and vote on the proposed candidates.
We have started a "Children's Church" monthly email offering!

Give-A-Bell Program
For continued growth of our Carillon Bell Choir, we need more handbells - a terrific challenge to have and to meet! We are incredibly blessed as a church to have the original gift of three octaves of handbells, and now we need to add a fourth.
Our Give-A-Bell fundraising effort provides an opportunity for ALL in our congregation to give to a handbell fund for the music ministry. Our goal to is raise enough for an octave of handbells, making room in the bell choir for an additional five ringers!
If you would like to make a contribution to the Give-A-Bell program, please click HERE to fill out the form and attach cash or a check made out to FPC and place it in the offering plate this Sunday or drop it off at the church office. Please put “Give-A-Bell” or “Handbells” in the memo space on your check or envelope.
Donations can also be made via Text to Give, by texting FPCCOV to: 73256
Please email catherine@fpccov.org with your listing details if you use Text to Give.
Contributors will be acknowledged in the worship guide by the name(s) given when the new handbells are dedicated. Thank you!
