Thank you, Josh Holtcamp!

After years of serving as BHCC's Youth Sector Representative, Josh is stepping down and focusing on his other passions, such as FFA, Band, and Sea Cadets.

Josh, thank you so much for your commitment to the coalition's mission and to helping envision a healthier Burlington.

We wish you all the best as you close out your senior year and continue to do great things.

Tree Lighting at the Station - FOLLOW-UP

On Thursday, December 7th, BHCC proudly sponsored the Kid's Craft Table for the Burlington Chamber of Commerce's event, "Tree Lighting at the Station."

We spread joy, talked with the community about who we are, introduced our high school volunteer, Anica, to Mayor Sexton, and stayed cozy by the fire while we crafted and colored the fun box sets with the kids.

Thank you to our Volunteers, Taryn and Anica. It was a fun evening, and the coalition deeply appreciates your gift of time and for helping us spread the word about who we are.

B.E. WELL Club & Youth Coalition - Report

Mission:

"To create substance-free, open-minded, safe spaces open to everyone to tackle mental health and substance use among our peers."

B.E. Well & BHCC

As students work towards becoming a fully recognized ASB club, they have elected officers, and students Isabel and Lakelynn are sharing the Presidential role, becoming Co-Presidents. Starting at our January 2024 meeting, we will welcome B.E. Well Co-Presidents to attend BHCC meetings and hold a space on our agenda for them to report what B.E. Well is doing, what they need from BHCC and any other information they would like to share with the coalition.

Vive 18 Assembly

On December 6th, Sedro-Woolley's youth coalition, CAMP, invited eight students from B.E. Well to an assembly presented by Vive 18. The assembly focused on building positive skill sets and how to host substance-free events among their peers.

Instagram

B.E. Well's Instagram page is now live! Follow them to see the positivity they share, helpful tools for teens, and FUN!

On January 28th, 2024, four students from B.E. Well will travel with Käaren, Tessa, Sedro-Wooley's youth coalition CAMP, and other United General District#304 staff to Washington, D.C. to attend the C.A.D.C.A. Leadership Forum.

Students will attend educational classes geared towards youth, about coalition work and how to be a leader in their community. Additionally, they will have opportunities to visit historical sights, including a tour of the White House!

You can learn more about the C.A.D.C.A. Leadership Forum in D.C. here.

Help BHCC create and capture memories!

We all cringe a little at a stock photo and don't have to choose between that and the real thing when media releases are on file!

Please take the time to fill out and send back the completed and signed media release to Käaren at:

Kaaren.Flint@UnitedGeneral.org

B-ESD Superintendent Dr. Chris Pearson and BHCC Program Coordinator Käaren Flint had the opportunity to meet and discuss how BHCC and B-ESD could unite and support Burlington Youth in positive, pro-social, and substance-free ways.

Dr. Pearson will be attending BHCC's February 20th Meeting at the Burlington Public Library. Please join us as we continue the conversation!

An Easy Way to Give!

Do you shop at Fred Meyer? Do you have a Fred Meyer Rewards Card?

Fred Meyer offers a program through your rewards card called "Community Rewards."

It allows you to pick a local non-profit, like BHCC, and just by shopping, give!

Each time you use your Rewards Card, it returns a percentage to BHCC.

Follow the link below to our Facebook post about enrolling your rewards card, and start giving today!

Enroll In Community Rewards

Congratulations to our Program Coordinator, Käaren Flint, on being a Top 2 Finalist for the Burlington Chamber's Humanitarian of the Year for 2023.

Winners for all categories will be announced at the Burlington Chamber's Awards of Excellence on January 5th.

Donations

Even though BHCC is lucky enough to have a federal DFC (Drug-Free Communities) grant, there is much the funding doesn't cover.

As we review our sustainability plan and the support we want to offer B.E. Well students, local youth, and the Burlington community, we are looking into viable ways to raise funds.

Nothing has been decided now, but stay tuned as we learn more.

Sponsorships

As part of our community engagement work, we have been discussing possible sponsorship/event opportunities that would get us in front of the community and interacting with the Burlington residents.

Recent suggestions have included:

  • Berry Dairy Days
  • Trek for Treasure
  • B-Town Fall Fest

If you know of opportunities for BHCC to reach the community, reach out to Käaren at kaaren.flint@unitedgeneral.org
