From the Director

Hello Mass Timber Leaders,

I hope to be seeing many of you at the International Mass Timber Conference (IMTC) starting March 26 in Portland – remember to register ASAP and, if you’re working on mass timber in Michigan, plan your travel so you can join our Michigan reception early in the evening on day 1.

In addition, WoodWorks’ Regional Director Anthony Harvey and team will be joining us on campus on May 15 for an in-person workshop.

Finally, I had the opportunity to tour Adelaide Pointe in Muskegon last week, where not one, but two(!) – mass timber buildings are under construction. Read on to see pics from the project site and find information about the WoodWorks training and the IMTC!

Update: Adelaide Pointe

What's better than one mass timber building under construction? Two on the same site! Sandra Lupien joined Kinsol, Element 5, and Catalyst Construction for a tour of Adelaide Pointe by developer team Emily Leestma and Ryan Leestma where a condo building and a multi-purpose (event venue, restaurant) are both going up. The feelings of inspiration were universal as the group saw, smelled, and touched the glulam and CLT walls, floors, and ceilings taking shape on a clear sunny day on Lake Muskegon.

Pictured below: condominium building and a mixed-use building with an event space, a restaurant/bar, and office space. Architect: Korb & Associates; Construction Manager: Catalyst Construction; Installer: Kinsol; Mass Timber supplier: Element 5; Developer: Leestma Management. Learn more about the project here.
