Easter Monday Vestry, Warden, and Officer Installation
Vestry Meeting Monday, April 25
At Monday night's regular meeting, the vestry expects to vote on the draft memorial policy. After our meetings with the parish in January, we have incorporated some of the feedback we received on the original draft. Parishioners who would like read the final draft before the vote should email Father Eric to request a copy.
FROM THE RECTOR
Alleluia! Christ is Risen! It truly was a wonderful Holy Week at Saint Paul’s, full of faithfulness, vibrancy, and, let’s be honest, people. The paradox of Holy Week is that every year we put all of our effort into building it, but then God is the one who actually does all the most important parts. The resurrection itself, of course, is God’s work, but so is the quickening of our hearts, the leaning together into a community of faith, the transformation of ourselves and our world that is the ongoing work of resurrection. It’s not a bad model for a working church, a church fully committed to ministry in God’s world and to God’s people: we work as hard as we can, but no matter how hard or well we work, the “success” of our endeavors is finally dependent on the grace of God.

Now, my friends, I’m going to speak frankly. If we’re going to extend the joyful proclamation of Easter to our neighbors and the world, we need you. Yes, we need you to come to church, but even more, we need you to help us be the Church together. As I tried to see you through happy tears on Sunday, I thought of how well-positioned we are to be a vibrant center of love and ministry in a town and world that desperately need the good news of God’s unquenchable love. In response to God’s great love for us, we:

  • love God (worship ministries, altar and flower guilds, audio visual team, choir),
  • love each other (pastoral care, formation for children/youth/adults, fellowship),
  • love our neighbors (outreach), and
  • love the world (creation care, missions).

There is room for your gifts in any of these ministries, and you can imagine ways of loving that the church hasn’t thought of yet.

On behalf of Saint Paul’s, I’m deeply grateful to the many hands that set the stage for Holy Week so well. Keith Shafer and the choir led our music with something even beyond their usual excellence. Our children’s formation leaders planned and implemented new liturgies for our kids on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday. The audio-visual team streamed everything and improvised with expertise as our worship moved from the yard to the church to the parking lot and back to the church. The flower guild and altar guild put in countless hours behind the scenes to prepare our worship space. The staff nearly set up cots in the office last week to accommodate the hours the staff was putting in. Our acolyte masters and vergers coached full teams of acolytes through liturgies we hadn’t really done in a few years. And our assisting priests graciously participated in leading our worship, and graciously helped me lead our worship as well.

We gave our best, and God did the rest. Now let’s take that same Easter energy into the world. The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!

EVENTS THIS SUNDAY | April 24
Saint Paul's Nursery is OPEN
Sundays 9:30 AM -12:30 PM
We are pleased to announce that the Saint Paul’s nursey has reopened for children 6 months to 4 years of age. The nursery will be available on Sunday mornings beginning at 9:30 a.m. to allow parents to attend formation. If you have any questions about the nursey, please contact the parish office. Miss Connie and Miss Jenna are all VERY EXCITED to welcome you back!
Sunday Forum
Sundays, 9:30 AM, Berlin Room
This Sunday at 9:30 we’ll explore some of the ways that theologians have tried to make sense of the resurrection. We’ll go through the scandal of a bodily resurrection, resurrection in times of skepticism, and the resurrection for a re-enchanted world.
Godly Play (grades PK - 1st)
9:30 AM -10:30 AM
In the Children's Ministry Center
ALL children inherently know God, but it is up to us to give them the language of the Christian faith so they can grow to make meaning of our faith in their own lives. Godly Play is a profound method rooted in Montessori principles that forms child spirituality by attending to their natural gifts for wonder and discovery. Children are greeted at the door of the Godly Play room by the "door person." It is VERY important for parents to respect the boundary of the door threshold by not entering the children's sacred space--their Godly Play room. We cannot wait to welcome your children each Sunday!

For more information, contact Kim Butler or Ivey Coleman.
Spark: (grades 2-3)
9:30 AM -10:30 AM
In the Children's Ministry Center
Our older children will again immerse themselves in SPARK, where they will work with the same themes and Scripture that we all encounter in common worship. Every lesson follows a four-part pattern: Gather, Open the Bible, Activate Faith, and Send. Week after week, the children and their leaders gather together, explore the Scriptures, enjoy one another's company, pray, and discover God's presence in their midst.

For more information, contact Coleman Graham or Laurie Montgomery.
Spark: (grades 4- 6) "Look at the Gospels”
9:30 AM -10:30 AM
In the Children's Ministry Center
Our older children will continue to "Look at the Gospels” of Jesus’ life and ministry. His parables, miracles and teachings are displayed with posters, colored drawings, and miniature models. They are also studying the many wonders of the Old Testament through the first seven books of the Bible.

Each Sunday using the Spark Curriculum we follow a five-part pattern: gather, read the scriptures, discuss its meaning, pray and play “Who dat?” (“Who dat” is a game of Bible trivia based on what they have already learned).

For more information, contact Susie Culbreth or

Good Friday Offering
We will send the combined gifts of our parishioners with Saint Paul’s gift from the annual budget for the Good Friday Offering next week.

To make a donation please make your check payable to Saint Paul’s Church and write “Good Friday Offering” on the memo line. To make a gift online use the link below: choose special offering and then Diocese of Jerusalem

Through the years many Episcopalians have found the Good Friday Offering to be an effective way to express their support for the ministries of the three dioceses of the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East. Pastoral care, education and health care continue to be primary ministries through which the reconciling spirit of the Christian faith serves all in need. The generous donations of Episcopalians help the Christian presence in the Land of the Holy One to be a vital and effective force for peace and understanding among all of God’s children. More information on the Good Friday offering is available here.
