Today’s gospel starts with disciples obsessing over who will be closest to Jesus, leading to Jesus teaching his followers about God’s take on importance and power. Here Jesus makes it explicit that the reversal of values in God’s community is a direct challenge to the values of the dominant culture, where wielding power over others is what makes you great. When we pray “your kingdom come” we are praying for an end to tyranny and oppression. We pray this gathered around the cross, a sign of great shame transformed to be the sign of great honor and service.
From the desk of Pastor Katie

Grace, peace and every good be with you!

Who is loving the rainy weather? I am thankful for the rains that are bringing a good, nourishing drink to the land!

Somebody posted in my news feed "11 Thursdays til Christmas"...What?!? Time is flying and by the time I am writing this, it's now 10 Thursdays. This means that the season of Advent will be upon us before we know it.

I love the season of Advent. I love the preparations for Christmas, I love the traditions of counting down that our family has - and honestly, I love the blue that adorns our worship space! I am excited to share with you some plans HLC has for Advent. I hope that you will be able to take up these opportunities in your own preparing of heart, mind and home:

Sunday, November 14th - following worship - Advent Event!
  • Our very own Coleen Klatt has designed a lovely Advent calendar that we will craft. This is a good project for all ages and I look forward to seeing all ages work side-by-side to craft a wonderful tool for use in our homes.
  • Register your household here: Register for Advent Event
  • All supplies will be provided.
  • Any questions - please contact the church office or Pastor Katie

Wednesdays, December 1, 8, 15, 2021 - Tidings of Comfort and Joy: Advent Midweek Reflection and Worship - 6:30pm
  • The Worship and Music Ministry Team has been hard at work to prepare worship experiences for the Advent season. On these Wednesdays we will gather for song, prayer and reflection. This will last approximately 30 minutes and we hope that it provides an opportunity for spiritual growth in what can easily become a very busy time of year.
  • This will be in-person or live-stream.

Peace and grace to you always,
Pastor Katie Wegner
