NISD Team,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Our faculty and staff had a very positive professional development experience today, and we are ready to get our kids back tomorrow. As an FYI for everyone, weather services predict we will see some more winter weather this week. According to the weather report today, we could see freezing rain Wednesday and Thursday.

If there is any chance I would have to alter our school schedule for this weather event, it does not look (right now) that I would be able to make this call the day before. We plan to have staff members from our transportation and maintenance departments out on the roads during those mornings to assess the extent of any icing, if necessary … please make sure you say a prayer and/or have a special thought for this crew. They will drive the roads very early to make sure the rest of us are safe. If any decisions need to be made, we will do our best to get those communications out to everyone by 5 a.m. on those affected mornings.

Also remember how geographically large our district is. We could very well be bone-dry in over 95% of the district, which would not call for any schedule changes and still have some slick spots that would affect some families, staff, or community members depending on their locations. Everyone needs to take special care while driving – especially our student drivers – during these weather challenges, and always give yourselves more time to get to school while dealing with the weather conditions.

Be prepared to get more messages on this from the district starting mid-week, and everyone please be safe! Thank you for your support of our children and our schools.
