Santa's Coming To Town on November 27
Here's The Plan For His Shenandoah Visit
Ho, Ho, Ho! He's making his list and he's checking it twice...then he's flying from the North Pole to Shenandoah...only this year, his plans are a little different to keep everyone safe and healthy.
We're excited that DSI is teaming up with Mrs. T's Pierogies to create a fun, festive and safe afternoon to kick off the holiday season. Everyone will be practicing the proper CDC guidelines, wearing masks and social distancing.
Friday, November 27th Santa Schedule:
Santa Parade
1:00 PM: Starting on East Washington Street, accompanied by a Shenandoah police escort, Santa will parade through Shenandoah while on top of the Polish American Fire Company's antique firetruck. This year the parade will be extended so those coming to greet Santa can maintain proper social distancing.
Christmas Village & Magical Mailbox
NEW! This year, to help spread Christmas cheer, Mrs. T's Pierogies and DSI are excited to announce the installation of a Christmas Village next to the DSI office in The Veterans Memorial Park, 116 N. Main St.
Along with holiday music and decorations, a magical mailbox will be set up so children can drop off their letters to Santa. Those who include a return address will even receive a postcard back from Santa! Letters can be dropped off at the Christmas Village between November 27th and December 22nd.
This fun, and entertaining afternoon is sponsored by Santa, Mrs. T's Pierogies and all the fine people in our community. "We are excited to work with DSI to welcome Santa, and the Christmas season to Shenandoah safely. This year has required a lot of events to pivot and we hope that our adjusted plan will still help local families create happy Christmas memories," said Megan Heim, Assistant Public Relations Manager, Mrs. T's Pierogies.
"We would like to thank Mrs. T's for all they are doing to make Christmas magical . We are happy to partner with Mrs. T's to make Christmas come to Shenandoah in a different but awesome way. Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas to all," said Mary Luscavage, Executive Director, DSI.

Mary Luscavage Announces Retirement
|
Mary Luscavage, DSI Executive Director and Main Street Manager recently announced her retirement after 14 years leading the nonprofit. Mary, a lifelong Shenandoah resident initiated a variety of fund raisers, programs and events that has strengthened Shenandoah and the business community.
"It's been an honor and privilege to work with all the volunteers of DSI. Who would've ever dreamed that throughout the years we would've achieved so much together. I enjoyed working with the community in so many ways including the state's facade improvement program, business retention efforts, building a gazebo in the Veterans Memorial Park, and spearheading a mural to celebrate the history of Shenandoah, I have also enjoyed watching our fund raisers grow including taking the reigns from the Historical Society to continue Heritage Days, starting Kilbasi Festival, the Kilbasi Pierogi Golf Tournament and our popular soup sales. These events bring people back home to Shenandoah and generate national exposure for our historical town.
I am also grateful to have been part of CEBA, The Center for Education, Business and the Arts and will look forward to its future success. This is a bittersweet moment for me but Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. and its volunteers will always be in my heart," said Mary.
We are happy that Mary has agreed to serve on the DSI board and will assist the new Executive Director for a smooth transition.
Congratulations, Mary and all the best!
