Creating Foundations For Life

Issue: #195 10/11/2021
Dear Good Shepherd Families,

We were thrilled to see the children’s smiles today - as we moved to optional masking outside. We still must wear masks indoors on both campuses, from preschool through 8th grade. Outside businesses are loosening restrictions and masks are becoming optional indoors around town, but schools operate under stricter guidelines led by Marin Public Health. Students are welcome to wear masks outside if they choose and we will support them. It is a help especially during recess and PE class to go without masks after all this time.

Our fabulous PTC organized a virtual book fair for next week. This year, we are partnering with Books Inc for the fair. Teachers on both campuses are sharing wish lists with the Books Inc and we will share easy ways to purchase the books on the store website next week when the book fair opens. We are eager to build our classroom and school libraries and any of your purchases will support that goal. Our teacher's lists will be added in the next few days. Link to Books Inc is found HERE.

Next week we will hold parent teacher conferences and it will be early release (before lunch) all week. (See below for dismissal times.) Your teacher should have shared a sign up list with you; reach out if you have not signed up for a conference yet. A few housekeeping items for the week:

  • NO Enrichment classes next week -- they will resume the following week.
  • Extended Care IS available October 18-22. We are happy to have your children in our Extended Care program with Ms. Hayward and Mrs. Hartmann. In order to staff accordingly, please fill out this quick form if you plan to send your child to Extended Care: Extended Care Sign up even if you have already emailed the director.
  • If you do have your child stay after, please be sure to send him or her with a full lunch and water bottle. Hot lunch or pizza will not be available.
  • NO Early Care (7-8am) on Friday, October 22. Our preschool teachers who staff the early care will be holding their conferences that day.

We are excited to announce that we will have our annual Fun Run in the fall this year! We had such great participation with our students and families with last year’s run and decided that we would shift our run to a Turkey Trot for this year. Our Boosterthon Fun Run will be held on Tuesday, November 16th. There will be two runs at the elementary campus in the morning for our Butterfly, Dragonfly and K-5th grade classes. Our middle schoolers will run after lunch in their very own Color Run on the Wilson Ave. campus. Our goal is two-fold. We want to promote physical fitness and the joy of exercising. We also use the fun run to fundraise for school improvements. These funds will go directly to supporting the Teachers, Students, and the Classroom. More details to follow.
Fun Run/Color Run Sponsorship

We are excited to share this opportunity with our Community Business Partners! If you have a business you would like to feature for this event, we have options! Not only do you get to share your business with the GSLS community, but the community at large when our students wear the shirt around town. What a great way to support our fundraising efforts, your business, and more importantly, the students at Good Shepherd. Click on this link to see the options! We have a tight deadline and will need all submissions by this Thursday 10/14! We can also help with artwork if needed.

With Appreciation and Excitement!

Family Fun Events:
Will you please help so these GSLS traditions can still happen?

We need more parent volunteers to help plan our Someone Special Dance (Thank you to Chase Maxwell for signing up!) and our Lucky to Have You (No parents have signed up yet). We also need more help with our Talent Show (Thank you to James Thompson for signing up!) Please read these details and consider how you can help:

Unfortunately, if we do not have enough parent volunteers, these community building events won't be able to happen this school year. :(

Someone Special Dance Parent Volunteers Needed!
What: Traditionally the Father/Daughter dance (Preschool - 8th Grade)
When: February 5th
Role: Two parents (or more) to secure the venue, come up with a theme, decorate, set up the music and any other activities for the evening. It's usually an early event, 5-8pm. We've had simple events that were held at the school with small snacks, music, games and a photo booth. We've also had dances at the country club with a buffet dinner included. And we've had a dance outside by the pool at the country club which was more focused around games than dancing with a theme and food. The PTC can get you all of the details from previous events. We typically charge for these events and that amount will depend on the venue and if you serve food.

Lucky to Have You Event Parent Volunteers Needed!
What: Traditionally the Mother/Son dance (Preschool - 8th Grade)
When: April 30th
Role:  Two parents (or more) to secure the venue, come up with a theme, decorate, set up the music and any other activities for the evening. It's usually an early event, 5-8pm. We've had simple events that were held at the school with small snacks, music, games and a photo booth. We've had a dance outside by the pool at the country club which was more focused around games than dancing with a Star Wars theme and food. This event could even morph into a Bowling event or other activity with Sons and their Moms. The PTC can get you all of the details from previous events. We typically charge for these events and that amount will depend on the venue and if you serve food.

Talent Show Volunteers Needed!
What: We've had everything from magic tricks, to singing to karate moves, it's a super fun night for our community to celebrate the amazing talents of our GS students (all school)
When: March 25th
Role: Two parents (or more) to secure venue, set up sound system, stage, decorations, hold a weekly practice for the talent show weeks before the event, ensure each act is appropriate with appropriate music. The PTC will make sure you have everything you need to plan this amazing event.
