Mission and Ministry
The Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast to receive UTO Grant to respond to COVID-19

United Thank Offering announced the grant recipients for the Spring 2021 granting cycle, and we are excited to share that the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast will receive funding for St. Mark’s, Troy, Food Pantry. The focus of the granting process this year was "Recovering with Love and Gratitude: An Episcopal Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic in Local Contexts."

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Food Pantry ministry in Troy, Alabama, provides supplemental food to people in need in the community. Alabama has the 3rd highest poverty rate in the United States, with a child food insecurity rate of 33%. In the initial months of the pandemic, when schools, churches, and businesses closed, food insecurity increased markedly.

What is the Commission on Racial Justice and Reconciliation?
Authored by Susan Miller, St. Stephen’s, Brewton (Member, Commission on Racial Justice and Reconciliation)

What is the Commission on Racial Justice and Reconciliation?

For me it is:
  • A respectful environment in which to learn and share,
  • A place to help me grow in living out my baptismal covenant that calls us to strive for justice and peace among all people and respect the dignity of every human being.

As someone who could be labeled as conservative, I was taken aback for a moment when I was asked to serve on the Commission. Then I realized, my voice, my conservative voice is important in this work.

Around the Diocese
Convocation I and II Youth Gathering
St. Paul’s, Daphne welcomed youth from Convocations I and II to their campus for an afternoon of outdoor activities on Saturday, May 8. Youth from St. Paul’s, Daphne, Church of the Good Shepherd, Mobile, and Trinity, Mobile, competed in a photo scavenger hunt, enjoyed music and worship led by Philip Iversen and the Rev. John Talbert, and closed with a pizza dinner. New friends were made and plans are already in the works for another event in July!
Pentecost Sunday on the Lawn
Churchgoers to St. Christopher's, Pensacola, were treated to a spirit-filled Pentecost service on the lawn this past Sunday. The children processed with doves and bright streamers to commemorate the Holy Spirit's descent upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. It was a true celebration of the birth of the Church and a return to worship without masks!

Worship on the Water – A Diocesan-wide Fall Youth Kickoff Event

Worship on the Water is a recurring event at Beckwith Camp and Conference Center, where youth gather to celebrate Eucharist, play games together, swim and canoe, tie-dye and share a meal. This event is an amazing way to build community between church EYC groups, help our youth identify as part of the greater Diocese and Episcopal Church, and strengthen individual youth group relationships as you travel to an off-site event.

This year's music for the Eucharist will be an offering from students participating in the DioCGC Youth Musicians Leadership Summit!

Look for a registration link via email and in an upcoming Coastline. There is a small cost per student to help cover supply costs and event T-Shirts.
