From In-Person to Virtual: How to Engage Your Audience
June 2 & 9

NCMC Corporate & Community Education is offering: "From In-Person to Virtual: How to Engage Your Audience" via Zoom on June 2nd and 9th. Do your presentations suffer from text-heavy slides, too many bullet points, lecture style, disengaged learners and poor feedback? Presenting virtually was thrust upon most of us as the only way to communicate our message at the start of the Pandemic, but now it’s here to stay. Even the best speakers become less effective delivering virtually. Learn the key skills to connect with your audience by creating and presenting captivating, interactive presentations that will keep your audience engaged and result in getting your message across successfully.

Presenter, Sue Barenholtz has been a leader in the learning and development field for more than 30 years, successfully engaging thousands of participants. Register here.

Covid-19 Vaccine Pop-Up Clinic Interest & Suggestions Form
In efforts to increase access to the COVID-19 vaccine, the Health Department of Northwest Michigan is seeking suggestions from community members for locations to host pop-up vaccine clinics across Otsego, Antrim, Charlevoix, and Emmet counties. Examples of potential pop-up clinic locations for on-site vaccination include restaurants/bars, grocery stores, events, festivals, food pantries, housing communities, and more. If you represent a business or organization interested in hosting a vaccine clinic for staff and/or the public, or a community member with suggestions for pop-up locations, please complete the form below. Our team will follow up with businesses or organizations who express interest as feasible. Our path out of this pandemic requires all of us working together. Your suggestions will help increase vaccination rates and prevent COVID-19 spread in our communities. Thank you!

NOTE: We will prioritize suggestions for how to reach community members who face barriers to vaccine access and pop-up locations in low vaccine uptake areas. Click HERE for more info and to access the form.

Michigan Municipal League Foundation Opens Applications for Grants to Bring People Together

The Michigan Municipal League Foundation today is launching its second round of the Bridge Builders Microgrant Program. Applications for the expanded program open today, April 30, 2021 and close May 31, 2021. This year’s program has grown considerably and includes two funding categories: Neighborhood Microgrants and Main Street Microgrants. This grant category asks everyday residents and emerging community leaders to identify ways to strengthen the social fabric of their communities through creative, intentional acts of connection. Main Street Microgrants are $5,000 grants funded by the DTE Foundation awarded to collaborations between local small businesses and artists aiming to bring residents back to local businesses to celebrate culture and diversity.

Odawa Casino Collects For Purses With A Purpose
Odawa Casino, with the help of the community, presented donations to the Michigan State Police for their Purses with a Purpose program last week.

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Michigan State Police launched the Purses With a Purpose program to help collect important items for victims of sexual assault. When a survivor is leaving an abusive situation, they often must do so quickly and are not able to take necessities with them. The goal of the program was to collect donations of purses that are filled with comfort items and necessities to provide them to these survivors.

‘Purses with a Purpose’ was started in 2019 by a trooper at the Cadillac, MI post who saw what a great need for support there was for victims of sexual assault. Since then, the program has grown and become successful at other MSP posts throughout the state of Michigan. Odawa Casino became a drop-off location for items this April and plans to continue to participate in years to come. Click HERE to see the full press release.

Restricting Outreach

May is Mental Health Month
North Country CMH (NCCMH) brought the PhotoVoice project to our communities a number of years ago to help our clients express their feelings, and break the stigma around mental health. Since then we have held a number of classes and the results are incredibly moving. With funding from Consumers Energy Foundation we were able to hold a virtual class and asked clients for messages of hope and coping during this unprecedented modern pandemic.
Click HERE to see their most recent project. Members of New Horizons Clubhouse and Petoskey Club recently came together in a ‘PhotoVoice’ discussion group about life during the coronavirus. They took photos and wrote reflections about their experiences in order to benefit others who are now struggling. We hope you enjoy their creations in this VIDEO.
