FSS E-NEWS
DECEMBER 2022
Dear Friend,

Another amazing and challenging year is coming to a close. At times I have felt like that kitten in the poster captioned "Hang in there!"- claws out, hanging precariously on the edge of a small branch. At others, hope has bubbled up like fountain, spilling over, joy uncontained. We are in a time of great change, doing our best in the present moment, while opening ourselves to future possibilities.

Through it all your steadfast support and participation has been a source of comfort and inspiration. (View our holiday thank you message.)

May this season of light and reconnection bring you health, renewed strength, hope, and joy as we work to transform our world.

In gratitude,
Susan Mokelke

2022 FOUNDATION NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS RESUMED IN 2022

Residential advanced trainings held in 2022
After a long hiatus due to the pandemic, the FSS has resumed our in-person weekend and residential programs. The full lineup of residential trainings was offered on both the East and West Coasts, including the Two Week Shamanic Healing Intensives, two new Three Year Programs, and a West Coast offering of Harner Shamanic Counseling Training. (See below for residential trainings offered in 2023.)
The interrupted 16th West Coast Three Year Program resumed in September and the 11th East Coast Three Year Program finished its final session in October. Congratulations to the dedicated students who completed the training!

In-person weekend workshops available again
Weekend workshops have started up again in the USA and Canada. Visit the in-person workshops index page for information, index, and links to schedules for our authentic and time-tested workshops in core shamanism.
It will take a bit of time to get back to pre-pandemic schedules for the in-person workshops, but faculty are diligently planning and calendaring. Online workshops are ongoing. Note: We expect to update Covid safety protocols effective January 1, 2023. Watch for the announcement.
ONLINE SHAMANIC TRAINING
"Exhilarating in this day and age that something so liberating
could be made so accessible. Afterwards, I was so
inspired and encouraged I journeyed for a few more hours
and was uplifted by the results. This workshop was a life changer;
so much more than imagined was given to me."
Student, The Shamanic Journey
Since the FSS began offering online workshops in May of 2020, more than 600 workshops have been offered to 2000 plus students. The Foundation now has a complete Online Shamanic Healing Training Program, covering the primary shamanic healing methods such as extraction healing, soul retrieval, and psychopomp work. Additional workshops provide opportunities to gain personal knowledge, practice the methods, and explore ethical considerations. Currently, 130 students have completed the program. A Certificate of Completion is available, acknowledging the significant effort invested in the training.
There are also workshops in the Knowledge & Power series that provide opportunities to gain wisdom from the spirits to apply to real world problems facing our communities and world. Index of all FSS online offerings.
Bill Lyon
IN MEMORIAM: WILLIAM "BILL" LYON, 1941 - 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing in March of our longtime friend and colleague Bill Lyon, Ph.D., at the age of 81. An anthropologist and FSS Field Associate for Indigenous Western North America, Bill gave lectures all over the world with Native American shamans. He was the author of four books, including Black Elk: The Sacred Ways of the Lakota, entirely in the words of Wallace Black Elk. His book Spirit Talkers: North American Indian Medicine Powers, has been called “a remarkable collection of archival, historical, and anecdotal material that you will find nowhere else.” (Stanley Krippner, Ph.D.) Bill and Michael Harner were colleagues and friends. You can view a brief segment with them in The Way of the Shaman documentary (At 43:00 - 44:45 minutes).
